How to clean your vintage / used safety razors?

Gents,

I like your opinion and advice on the following.

As I am planning to find and buy some vintage safety razors, I would like to learn how to properly clean and/or sterilize used vintage razors.

Would cleaning with regular soap, a metal cream do?
Or should I use steam or chemicals to clean the razors?

Any help greatly appreciated!
