How old is the AV...

Picked these up at the flea market today and I was just wondering how old the williams AV is...I thought the bottle looked pretty cool, so I snatched it up.

I wish I could give you someting concrete but...

I looked at a bunch of youtube commercials. I think that Label may be for an overseas market circa 1978-79. Here is a video of a Turkish Singer doing an ad where the logos match your label. Her name is Seyyal Taner, if you google her name and commercial it will bring up this video, from the google page is some turkish and 78-79 so I assume...

The funny thing is if you watch the commercials that are US from that time they all seem to have a consistently different logo type. So thats my best guess. If I find any more I'll let ya know.

I think this is currently produced....the back of the label says...Williams Hispania sa, Barcelona.
lol...at least it is in a nice glass bottle...

I could be wrong but current production would say Combe Inc I believe. Plus if you look up Spain on Combes website it doesnt list AV as being available in Spain. Circumstantial but... Maybe one of our Spanish members will know more.

Combe Inc. just recently purchased the Williams company from GlaxoSmithKline. Previously they held only the North American manufacturing and distribution rights under licence from GlaxoSmithKline.
I'm not sure if Combe inherited the existing licencing agreement or whether/when they will change distribution/packaging/selection/formulae for non North American production.
Aqua Velva outside of North America was manufactured and distributed fairly autonomously by Sara Lee Corp., based in the Netherlands. I suspect that the rights were a fixed fee and not tied to sales. Unlike North American manufacturers, Sara Lee didn't change the formula and labeling much in the decades that they held the rights. It's a different product than the North American Aqua Velva. That label and bottle was in use for at least 20 years. It makes it very difficult to date it.

Edit: Further to the above, it seems that Sara Lee used different subsidiaries for different countries to manufacture Williams products. Kiwi Brands manufactures Aqua Velva in Africa, Australia and parts of Asia. Sara Lee in the Netherlands manufactures Williams products for some european countries. It's the first time I've seen a Spanish label.

If that's rhe case, where can I get some? I haven't seen any in pharmacies or supermarkets here, more's the pity.

Though Sara Lee's HQ is in the Netherlands, lots of stuff is produced all over Europe. There is Williams AV production in France, and available in every French supermarket too, but not overhere AFAIK though one drugstore-chain carries it. Another French Sara Lee product is the Monsavon soap which, sadly, is not available here at all; it does say Sara Lee/Netherlands but further down on the label is stated that it is made in France.

I can find AV in most independent/DIO and maybe DA drugstores, the Williams line includes the shaving cream from France and Somersets Shaving Oils have a license too. We don't have the AV Savane aftershave, but they have the normal canned junk:
