What's new

How many razors have you used in 2017?

I keep a log of my shaves in a file on my laptop. I just went back over it and discovered that I have used 11 different DE razors in 2017:

Merkur 34C
Gillette Black Tip
Gillette Short Comb New
Gillette Ball-End Tech
Gillette 40s SuperSpeed
Rockwell 6S
E Jagger 87
Merkur 23C w/Weber Bulldog handle
Gillette Long Comb New
Gillette Flare Tip SuperSpeed
Gillette Old Type

How about you?

My 2017 list, total of 21. I don’t keep a journal of the individual shaves, though (you are even nerdier than me :punk:):

1930s NEW Short Comb
1940s Eclipse Red Ring
1949 Gillette Aristocrat Jr. (made in England)
1950s Gillette rhodium Aristocrat (made in England)
1950s Gillette Flare Tip Rocket (made in England)
1950s Gillette Rocket HD500 (made in England)
1950s Pomco Slant
1953 Gillette Super-Speed 40s style
1955 Gillette Diplomat

1969 Gillette Super-84 Adjustable (Short Handle Black Beauty)
1982 Merkur 15C silver plated
2016 Feather AS-D2
2017 Ikon X3 head (slant)

I don't keep track either but I've probably used at least 50 different razors this year. I used 31 different open combs in OCtober alone.

At least 13. A combination of both new and vintage.

Merkur 27C
EJ 89
Slim
New LC
Fatboy
SS - four different kinds
Red Tip
Tech
Flare tip
Gillette travel

And I thought my RAD was bad! Being a nerd from way back I also keep a journal on my PC. It tells me I've used the following safety razors this year:

Mühle R89 CC
Maggard V3 CC
Maggard V3A CC
Yintal CC
West Coast Shaving OC
Giesen & Forsthoff OC

On order, still to arrive: Mühle R41, Schöne Italian OC

In combination with all of the above I have used a multitude of handles to experiment with different head/handle pairings. Doesn't increase the number of razors, but does provide more shaving experiences!

In addition to the above safety razors, I have used the following straights:

Ralf Aust 6/8 full hollow round point with schorkopf
JMG Steelworks 6/8 half hollow French point

Jagger DE89
Gillette NEW LC
Gillette NEW SC
Gillette Single Ring
Fatip Piccolo
Gillette Fat Boy
Gillette Super Speed

You guys are crazy.

How can you stand to shave with the same razor twice in the same year? Once I convinced my wife that doing so can cause tetanus, I bought just enough razors to stay safe, and I have never looked back.

Here is the list
Super-Speeds x 2, donated one
Techs x 3, gifted one away
Slims x 2, gifted one away
Old Types x 2, sold one, donated one
Rockwell 6C, gifted away
NEW short comb
Fatboys x 2, sold one

So I used 13 razors, and am ending the year with 6!

I've used 4:

1959 Gillette Fatboy E4 (whole month of February)
1969 Gillette Black Beauty Q1 short handle (as a travel razor while in Vegas last weekend)
1922 Gillette New Standard (for about 3 shaves just to try it out)
2015 ATT Atlas R1 (the rest of the time)

I don't keep track, but it had to be at least 30 maybe even close to 50. Some would be different examples of the same razor though, maybe around 25 different models all vintage except one Fatip Piccolo. I probably used a few more last year than this one, next year will probably be a few less than this one.
