How many products to do apply for aftershave?

I have been reading post from other members and they list 2 different aftershaves some are balms and some are splashes. My question is how do you apply it? Balm first then splash or vise versa? Do you put one on ans wait some time in between ? Or one on top of the other? Please explain your technique?

thanks

Splash types first. Creams or balms second. The splash wouldn't get under a cream or balm. The wet splash dries then apply cream.

I only use one, a splash.

I think the general rule with using both a splash and a balm, is to apply the splash, let it dry, and then apply the balm.

I tend to use a splash in the summer, switching to the balm more often when the winter causes my skin to dry.

i use 3

First: Alum , let dry and then rinse off
Second: Splash let dry,
Last: Nivea sensitive balm (absorbs really easily)

I never put splash after balm. As another poster wrote the balm wouldnt get to the skin properly anyway.

Not to threadjack here, but a quick question for those of you who use witch hazel - do you just splash it on like an alcohol based AS or dab it on using cotton or a cloth? I really hope people answer splash - cotton balls would seem the antithesis of manly DE shaves lol. I'm picking some up on the way home so I wanted to double check. Thanks. /endthreadjack

Not a thread-jack at all. You can do either, it's a personal preference thing. I splash it on like AS, but if you want to use something else, I would recommend a cotton round (like here) instead of a cotton ball, it won't tear or become a soggy mess. A good example of this commercially all together is Thayers Superhazel pads

WH and then balm.

After my cold rinse I let about 4 or 5 drops of WH land on my cupped palm and splash it on. I use it every day and am more than a year into my Thayer's unscented w/aloe. The bottle is a little over half gone.

Only using witch hazel for aftershave now but thinking about a splash to get my stink on and smell good for the ladies.

I squirt some WH on a kleenex and wipe it on my freshly shorn face.

Splash only. I haven't used a balm in years, although my wife bought me one a year or so ago and I have yet to use it. I will if my skin gets dry, though.
