How many blades have you tried?

I would still consider myself to be a relative newbie to the world of wetshaving and to using a DE. I started using a brush and soap in Jan this year, and took my first DE for its inaugural test drive in mid Feb. In that short time I have tried out 25 different blades.(I think that count's right. Or am I missing one somewhere?) For some reason I get a little thrill each time I load up a blade I've never used before.

Is this normal, or am I some weird anomoly?:lol: I guess it's just the hobbyist in me, and blades are the least expensive product to get a lot of variety to try out. At some point, I'll narrow it down to my favorite 4 or 5 blades to stick with, but right now I'm just having too much fun!:001_cool:

So here's the question: How many blades have you tried, and how long have you been using a DE?

Interesting question...never thought about it actually. I've been DE shaving for a few years now and have probably tried..well...let me see...

Feather
Dorco
Nacet
Trig
Treet
Derby
Iridium
Personnas
Gillette Black/Yellow/Green
both types of Sharks
Astras
Bic
Lord
....and a few others I can't remember.

so I guess around 17-19?

I've tried seven and decided to stick with three of them. The others were too rare or just dull to me. My DE age is three.

Having bought 100 Feathers recently I might aswell end my 'journey' there.

Most of the blades that have been reviewed here on this site have been tried by me at one point or another. Now, I have a number of blades I don't plan to use. Maybe a PIF or few is in order.

I've tried a TON of different blades, from vintage NOS to modern blades. Of them there are only a few types that I like. Some blades change as new process are implemented (though not necessarily for the better) <cough>derby<cough> and you get to try them all over again.

  1. Derby Extra

I bought 200 almost two years ago and use a little more than a blade a week so I've still got a good supply. When I get close to depleted I'll likely order a sampler pack and see if there is one I like better.

Also a smattering of NOS Wilkinsons and Gillettes that I break out from time to time.
