Its not a matter of reducing maintenance effort, it’s an experiment to better understand how edges behave under sub par conditions. I for one believed it would be dead after only a couple of shave. The results of tests like these clear up a lot of misconceptions and give users a better understanding of edge longevity/retention, if nothing else it’s some entertainment...
More importantly will be if the edge can come back to life after stropping. This IMO is useful full info.
My own test between stropping is at 12 shaves.
