How hard is your Shaving Cream ?

Just wanted to hear from other cream users how hard your version of the cream is :001_tongu

I can see the consistency varies quite a bit depending on how old the cream is, storage of the cream and probably also depending on the way you scoop the cream out of the pot......

1. DR HARRIS - Arlington & Marlborough - surprisingly hard cream given that it's made at the same plant that makes AOS and the 3 T's
2. Acqua Di Parma - this feels more like a very 'gluey' hard gel
3. Castle Forbes Lime & Lavender - seems softer, but impossible to get much out with your finger. Need a brush or a spoon......
4. Santa Maria Novella - a bit more cream like than Castle Forbes, but still on the harder side
5. Fitjar Folgefonn - my other pot of Folgefoon (Citrus Kick) was much softer. This is quite dense in structure
6. Acca Kappa 1869 pot - middle of the road. Easy to get some out by just dipping my finger, but not as soft as AOS and 3 T's, which are quite a bit softer in structure
7. AOS Lemon & Sandalwood - soft cream
8. Trumper Almond - soft cream
9. Truefitthill Ultimate Comfort - soft cream
10. TOBS Jermyn Street - soft cream
11. Penhaligon Endymion & Blenheims Bouquet - almost runny soft, unless I shake the tubes
12. I Coloniali
13. Musgo Real
14. Speick
15. Omega
16. Proraso Green new
17. Proraso Red new
18. Erasmic Jordan made

Probably forgot some, but this is how my creams rank with regards to hardness :001_smile

I have a sample of Arlington cream that I put in a 1 cup Pyrex bowl and loaded it in there and face lathered. Will not be buying it as I like the soap better.

I have a tub of CF Lavender that I give a damp brush a couple of twists and face lather, gives a nice dense lather, this is the only cream I would buy again.

I've used AOS, but prefer the soaps, would not buy again.

The only AOS is have purchased is the Sandalwood cream and it was very dense, a la Castle Forbes.

Its DENSE in the container but still very "soft" in usage. Ive checked out all 4 of their creams and have 2 here...the Lemon and the Ocean Kelp but Sandelwood ( smells good!!) and their unscented...all 4 are soft creams.

My lightest creams are the ones that come in tubes. However, my DR Harris and AoS creams were very light when I first got them. My heaviest are my collection of TOBS creams. My Castle Forbes is heavy, but still very fluffy and easy to work with.

I've always wondered whether heat/cold/humidity/transit distance play a part.

The OP is probably referring to Proraso in the tube. However, the tub version is much harder than any tubed cream I have used. I dip out a little bit with my finger, spread it in my bowl and lather up. I would say it is about as firm as tub margarine.

My TOBS Sandalwood started out soft but quickly hardened and is now similar to my Proraso green tub. I keep the lid screwed on tight but when I first got it I removed the plastic film, if that makes any difference. I also pour out excess water before screwing the lid on.

I am guessing that individual variations based upon how old and how the cream was stored are a significant factor. For example, my Castle Forbes Lavender and my Harris Arlington are both very soft creams, even though I keep hearing from folks about the CF being a relatively hard cream.
