How do you rinse you razor during shaving?

When I am shaving I have always rinsed my razor under running water, I have tried filling the sink with water and rinsing but that just leaves a mess. On the shaving videos that I have seen on youtube almost everyone a sink filled with water to rinse the razor. So how do you rinse your razor when you are shaving?

If I use a DE I will rinse the razor in a cup of hot water. Running a hot blade across your face is nice.

I rinse my straight in running tap water, probably an excessive waste of water but it helps ensure the edge is clean with running water.

Dip in a full sink for the DE. Sink dip then wipe on a towel for the straight. No sense running/wasting the water.

With a cartridge I let the water run during the shave. Now I fill the sink half-way and rinse in that. Cream and hard water do leave a mess, but I don't want to leave the water run that long. When I'm finished I give the razor and sink a shot of Scrubbing Bubbles. Razor is clean and no complaints from SWMBO about a dirty sink.

I swirl the head of a double edge razor in warm water in the sink when I'm shaving.

After I finish shaving in the morning I take the razor apart, wipe it clean, and let the pieces dry during the day. When I get home from work I reassemble it.

When I used a cartridge, I would leave the water running. Now that I use a DE and live in Southern California, I fill the sink about half-way with hot water and rinse that way. Once I'm done, I'll give the razor a quick rinse under running water and then make sure I swish some water around the sink to get rid of the whiskers. I'm pretty tidy so there isn't much mess when I'm done.

This is one thing I dislike about DE shaving. With a straight, I wipe the blade on a damp cloth draped over the edge of the sink. Water in the sink stays nice and clean for splashing on my face or adding to the lather if needed.

When I rinse a DE in the sink I end up with soap scum forming. It's no fun splashing that on the face. My hot water doesn't run hot unless I leave it running a while, so the tap rinse method is no good.

I could have a separate container for rinsing the DE, but you have to draw the line somewhere about how much gear you use.

I don’t let the water run the entire time I shave, when it’s time to rinse the razor I turn the water on with the razor already under the tap. What method is more effective for saving water I have no clue but it can’t be that big of a difference?

I fill my sink and rinse it there. Usually I try to rinse it after a series of longer strokes with the razor so there is quite a good amount of stubble that visibly comes off. I greatly enjoy seeing this for some reason.

when I used a DE i swished it in a sink of water

Well, on an identical thread a few years ago, I came down on the side for filling the sink with water. Some other poster questioned that, saying it was a waste of water and why not just rinse under the spigot. I made a case for why I do that (probably something about the experience was better, I wasn't concerned about wasting water, etc). Then at some point I tried rising under the spigot and never looked back.

It was like face lathering. Bowel lather for 2 years, then try face lathering and never bowl lather again. Didn't have to think about it. Didn't have to become a habit. Just so clearly superior that I made the change.

As for dudes that leave the spigot running, I'm no eco-ranger, but that's way too much racket for me. Either I'm listening to NPR, music or silence. The faucet running is not a soothing sound to me.

DE -> rinse in water

Straight -> I use a wet sponge

DE -> rinse in water

Straight -> I use a wet sponge

very similar for me. I fill up the sink with warm water for the hair/lathered DE wash and also use it as a face rinse between passes, with a cold water splash at the end.

for the straight, i use a sponge that sits on the side of the sink and only quickly wash off the sponge when sponge surface seems too full of lather/hair.

I fill the sink a third of the way with water and put the drain stopper in as to not waste water. I am a sinkbowl swisher with my de to clean it from soap and whiskers.

Same with me. The shot of water lasts at most one second so I don't think I am using any more water than I would if I filled the basin. Plus, with a DE I don't rinse until both sides are full with lather.

I'm a sink swisher too.
mostly because of the Mantic vids.
partly because i'm afraid of bumping it on the tap if it's being shaken under running water.
