How do you like your lather made?

I was curious as I like my lather very thick (not watery at all). I know people say to make it watery for the straight which I try to do, but I know I like my lather VERY dense.

Was wondering what other people thought. I'm not sure if it really matters much at all other than your random personal preference, but I was wondering if anyone else was similar. I like my lather so thick that it fairly constantly gunks up on my blade, I have to shake it extra hard in water or run it under hot water (with the silo doors loosened).

This also affects my choice in soap somewhat. Some soaps seemed to either not be able to create thick lather, or the amount of lather building to get a thick lather is just really time consuming. I probably also use way too much soap because of this, luckily I have a lot :)

I don't think I'd like the lather as thick as you describe, but I do prefer it more to the dense side than the watery. As long as it's still got slip and isn't sticking the blade to your face, I say the denser the better!

I like it almost like cool whip. Not a big fan of thin, aerated lather. Also like it nice and warm from the scuttle.

Not too think for me. I find that I almost always get irritation on my neck if I don't have enough water in my lather.

Interesting, I think my razor glides fine with it thick (of course YMMV) but the only downside I can see is that usually I can't see the stubble I have to feel for it. But I've used it with more water and even though some people may be fine with it being a little thinner, I thought I had more irritation. I guess it's a personal thing and even though the razor doesn't stick to my face, I realized I have to watch out for gunk on the blade with it being as thick as I make it.

I mix up a pretty thick dense foam, then add some water so it is foamy, and then whip it until it is thick again and add water and whip again and again and again.

Think... melting cheese into bechamel sauce, or butter into hollandaise, or adding oil into vinaigrette.

If you whip until each addition is completely incorporated before adding the next addition you can get a very dense lather containing a lot of water. It won't dry as fast, it's slicker, and remember that shave soap is still "soap" so having less of it on your face can reduce irritation and dryness. The chemical that allows soap to exist, sodium hydroxide, is the main ingredient in draino.

I would say that my lather looks like the red extra creamy cool whip when I am done.
