What's new

How Did You "Ring In" Independence Day?

For me, a shave.

Some Proraso Green/Bigelow, a C&E Pure Badger brush, and a U.S. long-comb NEW with a Derby Extra Blade. I even waited 36 hours to get a good amount of growth! Topped it all off with some Aqua Velva Ice Blue aftershave.

Followed up with a shot of Myers' Dark Rum and a Negra Modelo.

Talk about diverse! However, as much as I love it, I couldn't bring myself to use a British NEW, as is my typical razor of choice. Keeping in mind the particular holiday and locale, after all!

"When in Rome, do as the Romanians do.":lol: So, I had to at least use an American razor and aftershave!

Please excuse me. It is time to go outside, light up a D&R Tobacco smoke, finish my beer and engage in some "faceturbation"!

Man, but that was a nice shave!

Later today, when daylight comes, I will go to the back of my property and do some shooting with my favorite rifle, shotgun and pistol, followed up at nightfall with some fireworks. Thank God for my freedom to do so!

It is great to live in the United States of America; in the Cherokee Nation in particular!

Warmest Regards and Happy Independence Day!

David

Came home from work, and had to park a block away from home because there is a parade on my street tomorrow. As I walked home, I tripped over a pile of gravel that my landlord left in the driveway.

Four police helicopters were circling overhead looking for three people that had fallen off a boat. As I write this, they have found one of them. One adult and a child are still missing.

As the clock struck midnight, I was on the phone with a co-worker trying to sort out a reprimand he had received earlier today. I'm Shop-Steward for our Union. We had been working on this for almost two hours, and hadn't really resolved anything ... but he's got 10 days to respond, so we'll get back on it next week.

Luckily, I have my Patriotic SotD to look forward to ... an All-American line-up of Williams/KMF whipped up in a DB Scuttle, Peerless brush, GEM Micromatic, Aqua-Velva and Bigelow ASB.

I just hope I wake up in time to luxuriate myself before I have to leave for work ... yeah, whoopee, I have to work on the 4th of July. It should be rather quiet, though.

On the good side, I get double-time for working on a holiday. On the bad side, I normally have Saturday off, but its a moot point, since I didn't get invited to any picnics or barbecues or fireworks or ANYTHING.

So far, its been a pretty crappy holiday.

Damn! What a drag!

I hope things turn out better for you as the day progresses.

I just finished "humping mail" for eight hours at the Post Office. My feet were sore and my lower back ached. Still, I did a few good deeds for the day, although the customers would never know. In fact, they more than likely will "talk trash" about the USPS. Still, I had much satisfaction for a day well-spent, and my conscience is clean. I couldn't wait to get home to my house in rural Oklahoma. Plenty of land, good neighbours and I couldn't ask for a better wife (a Southern woman of Anglo-Cherokee descent, at that!).

Here's to you, sir! A shame you don't live close by. You would be very welcome to share Independence Day with plenty of Southern/Western hospitality! You would feel at home when the day was done!

May the remainder of your holiday be better. Try to enjoy what is left.

Warmest Regards,

David

I spent July 3rd trying to find a parking place at the Post Office so I could mail some razors out. Unfortunately, the County Fair is going strong a block away, and parking was hard to come by. I pulled a McGuyver and got them mailed by the application of a little parking-fu (I parked in the Postal Supervisor's spot).

If not the Postal Supervisor's spot, look for the Postal Inspector's place. NOBODY questions ANYONE parked in the Inspector's spot!

Our 4th of July adventure actually began on the 3rd. My wife and I drove Southwest to Akita. Akita (秋田市, Akita-shi) is the capital city of Akita Prefecture in the Tohoku region of Japan. We were out and about geocaching in that area. We visited the site of Japan's first rocket test flight and made it a point to see the Sea of Japan. We watched the sunset on the West coast and then headed home to Aomori prefecture. After dropping off some friends my wife and I headed to the beach on the East coast and watched the sunrise over the Pacific. We thought it was kind of neat to see it set on one side of the country and rise on the other. We also took a ride to the far side of Ogawarako (Lake Ogawara) this evening to watch the fireworks being fired from the base beach at Misawa Air Base.

July 4th is always a day to celebrate our nations independence. I also take the time to reflect on all those who sacrificed to secure our freedom and all who continue to sacrifice to preserve those freedoms.

I had to get up at 6 AM and spend an hour and a half remotely connected to my office and run a job for our monthly processing cycle. Looking on the bright side, at least I still have a job. :001_unsur

I had a nice shave with my Speick stick, Simpson T-3, TV Superspeed and some Osage rub. Then I went out and put up the flag. My neighbor has his flag up every day, but other than us no flags are to be seen on the block. :frown:

Later on it's a barbecue at the in-laws.

I put the flag out on my Apartment door (Hey, still counts). Registered for B&B forums(Oh, Hi)...Warmed up my VDH shave set, and threw in my new Personna's from walmart I'm testing. Ah good ol' US of... oh shoot my Parker Razor is Indian. Hrm...

I also ordered a ton of Shaving stuff for my Den. Including a Futur and badger brush, blades, aftershave, creams and soaps. Booyeah!

Happy 4th and Keep on rockin' in the free world! :a5:

I actually slept in for quite a while. That isn't something I usually do. Made coffee and now I'm here

The rest of the day will be more, active.....

In a few minutes I'm going to make brunch for the family. Then we will get cleaned up and walk to the park by our house, enjoy the day and the fireworks tonight.

Happy 4th everyone.

dpm802, if you lived closer I would invite you over to my house. I hope work is slow, but not to slow that you are miserable.

Last night I enjoyed some BBQ meat and cold beer with my family...one of the few times in recent memory that I've been able to be home on a work day in time to have dinner with them. And it was awesome!

After everyone went to bed I sniffed my new QED Sandalwood/Rose B&B Group Buy soap for awhile and fought valiantly the urge to go and shave (I wanted to start my July 4 off with it). Then I went out to the garage and used a Dremmel to sand down the pointy tips on some flags I bought for the children to bring to the Parade today (the 3 kids are still in diapers, pointy tips = bad).

So this A.M. I started with delicious extra strong fresh ground french roast and hit the shower with childlike anticipation of using the Sandalwood/Rose. It was GREAT! I love that stuff. What an incredible shave. I was going to finish it off with some A/V, but I decided to go with a nice splash of Proraso.

Took the three babies to the local parade and had a great time knowing they were having a great time. Just got back.

It's not even lunchtime yet and I'm already very very happy that this has been such a great day!

I wish you all equally great days today.

Happy Independence Day!

Driving home last night I almost got hit by an amateur drunk (around here July 3rd is when the locals party, because the damn tourists are everywhere on the 4th). Got home, watched some of the Sci-Fi Channel's Twilight Zone marathon. Woke up at 8, did some yard work in the front yard, stopped at noon. Waiting another half hour for the sun to go down a bit so I can work in the shade in the back yard.

Well, my wife and I awoke and went to the stables to take care of our horse, Mindy, and talk to the farrier about an abscess that she currently needs tending to.

Then, we had lunch...corned beef and pastrami reubens, sweet tea, and dark chocolate:001_tt2:.

Now, home to get a shower and shave (first had to get my B&B fix) and attend a showing of "Public Enemies".

Tonight, hang with friends and celebrate the 4th!

Have a great 4th of July all!

Well, I was very UNpatriotic . . .

I shaved with a Rocket loaded with a vintage Wilkinson (100% UK)

Using Fitjar Cream (100% Norwegian)

Whippped up with an EJ synthetic brush (100% UK)

Tho I did finish my shave with some Baxter of CA. Not a total loss for the USA.

I just finished a 3 hour hike and am now chillaxin' with a margarita; fireworks later.

Well, we were kept up for the second night in a row by the neighbor's son throwing an extremely loud party in their backyard while his parents were gone. The best part was when Grandma and Grandpa showed up this morning to check on things and found the yard full of tire track and beer cans. Who says you have to wait until dark for fireworks!!

At any rate:

C. O. Bigelow cream whipped into a slick and thick lather with a Tweezerman.

Merkur HD loaded with a fresh Derby for 3 passes

For a little nostalgic touch - a splash of Clubman to finish it off.

Honey Bee Spa almond shave at the cottage. Then drove home for the Fourth on the Fox celebration. They will be doing the Green Bay fireworks display right outside my apartment tonight. We also had a water ski show right here on the river with several bands playing currently and a few more will be playing until 11 PM.

Should be a good evening.
