How can i reduce the upper lip nicks/cuts?

I've been DE shaving on and off for six months. I love the entire process and manliness associated with DE shaving. After months of practicing and tweaking my technique from hearing from others, one issue I still have is getting nicks and cuts in the area above my upper lip, mostly above the corners of lips. If someone can offer advice, I would truly appreciate it. Note: I typically perform a three pass shave (WTG, XTG, ATG) because I want that super clean look. The nicks/cuts typically occur during the ATG but not always and that's what I don't understand. PLEASE HELP

I wouldn't do the ATG pass on your lip. I've only done WTG, north-south, on my upper lip. usually 2 and its plenty. are you shaving every day? maybe give your lip a break for 2-3 days. or try some pre-shave oil with each pass on your lip.

Other than growing a moustache, you could try a less aggressive razor, you could try a more aggresive WTG pass to eliminate need for other directions.

Also try "balling the chin" stick your tongue between your teeth and your lips and push out to make a round surface which might be easier to shave.

The usual applies too, make sure you have plenty of good lather, prep, stretch the skin, and practice.

1st pass WTG
2nd pass XTG
3rd pass diagonal combo of XTG/ATG. Then without rinse milk some lather off brush and apply with fingers to mustache area. Now, divide that area into a north zone and south zone. Use light buffing strokes ATG with each zone. The buffing ATG is optional.

I never go ATG on my lip for your very reason. I will go WTG on the first pass then XTG on the next 2. Also try rolling your lip in so you get a flat surface to shave.

I always finish with ATG as indicated in my previous post. I agree; it's not for everyone.

No it is hair hair hair..

Try stretching. Pull up at the front of your cheek bone and stick your tongue in that area and push out. If you are right handed bring your left hand over top of your head to the cheek bone. You can either switch hands and do the same thing or just push up on the left side with your left hand and shave with your right (reverse this advice if you are left handed and shave with your left hand)

I've only shaved my mustache a couple times in 45 years but this is how I "used" to get that area tight and flat to shave.

Funny faces are your shaving "best friend". If you are worried about someone laughing, close the door :001_smile

Had the same problem. Hold off on ATG for now, using WTG and XTG only. You'll be plenty clean-shaven, good enough to pass a military inspection.

Honestly, I have the same issue sometimes. The weird thing is that it happens to me when I go XTG with my Super Adjustable, and that's the only time it happens. Try keeping the shaving blade parallel to the lip; that's what seems to work best for me.

I use the WTG pass then after I finished shaving I go to a BIC throw-away(yea thats right) and I go against the grain at the corner of my lips and below my nostrils. It seems to work! Maybe because the BICs are dull compared to a DE. Please don't
tell anyone I use a BIC throw-away!!

My upper lip is 2 WTG passes only and it works great. Additional passes in different directions have absolutely zero benefit for me yet have more than their fare share of consequences.

An injector for touch up is a short-cut. Effortless and efficient. Never got a bite back from these.

I have the same problem area. The solution which works best for me: dial down the adjustable for this area, WTG, WTG, buffing XTG. Never ATG.

Whenever I try shaving ATG on the mustash area,I end up with bumps, irritation, razor burn and weepers. Now I just go only WTG and XTG.

Excellent advice above.
I would suggest VERY LIGHT or NO pressure if you go ATG. I do and it works. Perhaps you should improve your technique before trying ATG pass.
Good luck! It only gets better!
