Hot sauce antiques

As I splashed on my clubman from a hot sauce bottle tonight, I chuckled to myself as I saw a little glimpse in my head of some shaver many years from now picking up a "vintage" hot sauce bottle of clubman in a flea market and pondering to himself about how, when, where it was bottled..... Any one else ever have this thought? Or realize that generations down the line will not have antique toys from this time period as they are all either plastic or electronic and do not last to be pasted down?

I actually keep my aftershave bottles and soap containers for this very reason, I actually give my plastic soap containers to my two daughters, they love them, and they use them to carry stuff, and think the world of them. I don't know why they are so cool to them, but as long as they are happy, I guess I don't care.

My best friend is a tattoo artist, and his shop has a ton of collectibles in it, so I give him the glass aftershave bottles, and he tosses them around the shop in the display cabinets. His shop is very old school, and it has a legit flea market feel to it and he is a big fan of the "bygone era" as well. So I know they go to a good home.

Is a wonder what the future will hold.

I myself never thought of shaving with a razor from the ‘50s 10 years ago and yet here I am, wondering what other cool & useful stuff from the past have we replaced with disposable nonsense.

I work on a grain storage facility and a couple times a year we load train cars that have being in use for 50+ years and the technology is basically unchanged since the 1900’s.

So it’ll be cool for generations ahead to dig up what things we used and recycle it themselves in unique useful ways, but our generation is not leaving much to be desired I am afraid😥

I am afraid you are correct.

We still use old box cars that the railroad took out of service LONG before my time. I would guess my grandfather acquired them. Build a lean to on the side and you have grain and equipment storage. We have 1 with a lean to on both sides that served as a cattle/milk barn. It gives me great pleasure to use old "out of service" things. Once in a great while, we hook up the John Deere 594 side delivery rake to the John Deere 1938 model "A" and rake a small amount of hay. Just to remember days gone by. I did however build a couple gears for the rake with a CNC milling machine at work. So it is not 100% 1930's LOL

Wow, sounds interesting. Got any pictures that you would share?

Just where my clubman is stored. I did take the label off, would hate to make a mistake and shake some on my tacos.

Just tried to get another bottle at the store, but it was plastic. Is nothing sacred?? 😢

I transfered a clubman label to the hot sauce bottle. Found instructions on hete I think.

I heard a podcast the other day where they’d found a full and sealed cognac bottle from the 1600s buried in the entryway of a period appropriate house. They sent it to antique liquor specialist to test. He first tested it by inserting a hypodermic needle through the seal and drawing some of the liquid out and tasting it. He couldn’t place the taste. The next step was a lab to analyze the chemical make up of the “cognac.”

The contents were hair, needles (steel/iron), fingernail clippings and urine. Turns out the bottle was a “Witch Bottle” that was designed to protect people from witches’ spells. The cognac bottle was just what they’d used for packaging.

This thread just made me think of someone tasting Clubman thinking it was hot sauce and wondering why it tasted so gross.

You listen to LORE too!?! Great podcast. I would hate to mistake a witch bottle for my aftershave. :a46:
