Hot Lather

I've tried running hot water over my bush (even turned up my hot water heater, a bunch).
And BTW I've read ShaveWiki notes on using water boiler to heat water for my brush, IMHO much too much trouble. I've tried soaking my brush in hot water, again BTW brushes used: Simpson, Ever Ready and Made Rite (so good equipment utilized). I've attempted "cold water shaving" not pretty results. Bottom line... I can't seem to find the proper formula for a comfortable warm shave. All I'm asking for is that when I apply the lather to my face that it's warm. I using good brushes, Taylor of Old Bond Street creme, Mama Bear's Soap, etc... but I can't seem to get a warm shave... help...! :cursing:

I like my scuttle for this exact reason but it took some wrangling to get the temperature right otherwise the lather tends to dry out. Certain soaps tend to give me the appearance of a warmer shave like Proraso Sandalwood, Mike's Barbershop, and Tabac but the scuttle has been so far, the greatest addition for the warm, luxurious shave.

yeah a scuttle will help. fill with steaming hot water from a teapot.
in my opinion you may be attacking a problem the wrong way. Is the need for hot lather a luxury issue or a necessity for the closeness of your shave??

Try a mug in the sink with hot tap water. Put your brush in between passes.

I would suggest a scuttle as well if the above experiment works out for you.

I bought a large, cheap, thick and somewhat ugly mug at Homegoods. I fill it with boiling water before I shower, then empty it and whip up hot lather. Works great!

I have the G20 scuttle as well. Our water heater is set pretty high. When I first got the scuttle, I would preheat it and let the brush soak while I was in the shower. I would then dump it and refill the outer chamber. I found that this was too hot and my lather would dry. Now I simply fill it up with the hot water prior to showering and then dump only the bowl after the shower. This keeps the lather nice and warm without drying it out. If your hot water is cooler, you might try the pre-heat, then refill routine. If it is too cool, try the tea pot idea.

If you do end up with a scuttle, just make sure it holds enough water to make the lather warm.
There are a few manufacturers now and a few styles.
Do your research and let us know how you make out.

As you see scuttles get a lot of love here (including from me).

However , if you're just starting out and don't want to make that big investment look for rounded-bottom cappuccino mugs with high walls. Fill it with hot water as your showering to heat it up. Empty it and build your lather in the warmed mug and keep the mug in the warm sink water, being careful to not splash sink water into the lather mug.

I know their are cold water proponents, but for me there's little that is nicer in the winter months than warm lather.

Definitely scuttle.

You may have success with an improvised scuttle to give it a try. Fill a bowl (something that holds the heat would be nice) with hot tap water while you shower/prep. Then fill the sink with as much hot water as you can without having the bowl flip over. If it floats you're golden. The hot water should help keep the bowl warm.

My new Robert's Feats of Clay scuttle is keeping my lather nice and warm.

Luxury mostly - The "cold water" shave that many on the forum praise was an unpleasant experience for me both in comfort and closeness.

i usually take my mug of soap and fill it with hot water , then submerge my brush in warm water , just to get it fully wet, then fill a glass with hot water and stick my brush in about 3/4 never letting it sit near the knot. take a shower - re dump it in the warm sink , pour out the water in the mug and swirl around i usually get a warm shave the first round and a halfway warm second pass, but cold never
