Horn Handle care

I've a couple horn handles coming next week :thumbup1:

I have heard of the issues related to the horn getting dry.

What is the Life Expectancy of a horn brush?

Have you had any issues with yours?

How do you care for your horn brushes?

As far as I know you just oil them with Neatsfoot oil a couple times a year. Try not to drop them as they will crack if hit to hard. I just got one that was cracked in shipping :mad3:

Cracked in shipping....ouch...man...what was it?

It was a Lee Sabini horn handle 24mm (closer to 27mm) chubby style brush. He made it right with me so dont worry. He was great to deal with after I sent him pictures of the problem.

You can see the cracks on the top left of the third brush. They are mostly an eyesore as the handle is still solid and feels great in the hand. To be honest the brush is so nice, I almost dont mind.

Those are some great handles!

Does Lee Sabini do custom work?

The first two handles are Rudy Vey, its just the only pic I had of the cracked brush. Lee Sabini does some custom stuff but I'm not exactly sure of the extent. He does custom re-knots on most anything, but the handles seem to be a little more traditional than what you could find from say Rudy Vey or Shavmac. That said the knot on the horn handle brush is fantastic! Ultra dense, soft, short and scrubby. I liked it enough that I purchased a couple of his other types of knots (well brushes). They should get here this week assuming customs does not hold them and I'll post my thoughts on them. He said I could pass on his email if anyone was interested.

cool looking brush...

sounds like he treated you well...i read once that he sells on ebay?

how about that email!
