What's new

Hooray, my first safety razor

I was about to sink 30 or 40 dollars into a new safety razor this weekend, but first, I had to go pick up my cousin from my grandpa's house. I was a little early, and talking to my grandpa, when I remembered he might have a spare lying around. After searching through his bathroom, my hopes were falling, when he checks the left side of the medicine cabinet. There is a black handle Gillette super speed. Apparently, he has opened that side of the cabinet in so long that he couldn't remember seeing that razor before (and this man has a hell of a memory). Either way, I brought it home, cleaned it up, and it is in use now. Thought I would share my story :001_smile

Awesome! Good to hear, and it's a great DE razor to start out with. And the fact that it's a hand-me-down makes it even more special.

+1 on that anytime you can use something that was used by your grandpa is great. That razor should be still in good condition to hand down to your grandson and will give him just as good of shaves.

those are the best stories.
You'll learn a great deal buy using a SS. It's a good place to start.
purchase yourself a blade sampler and see what difference the blades make.
you'll be pleasantly surprised.

A true family heirloom, congrats!!

I forgot to mention, grandpa still uses his old Gillette Super Speed as well. This one was a spare. He came to the same conclusion as us when cartridges first arrived on the scene. He felt they didn't do any thing for his beard (thickest toughest hair across all his body except his head :p ) so he kept on with the old Gillette.
