Hookahs in this thread?

I've long been a pipe and cigar guy but my brother recently sent me a few Meerschaums and a hookah from Iraq. I know there's a growing hookah culture in the U.S. but what about the rest of the world, and what about B&B?

Also, what do I need to know before I start smoking this thing? I could look this stuff up online no doubt but I trust no one more than my brethren (and a few sisters) here at B&B.

Nice score! You should post pics in the score thread when you have time. I don't have any Hookah experience but hopefully someone will come along that can help.

in san francisco there are at least 50 hookah shops, many now selling replica hookahs made in china....I have heard the finest quality hookahs come from syria and lebanon....

I love hookah, just haven't gotten around to purchasing one myself yet. However when I do buy a hookah I plan to look for one of the shorter ones with the half-inch to 3/4 inch thick glass bases. These are not as modern looking, not terribly tall, the coloring is transparent, they have a very old-school look to them. But, they are freakin' tanks...I've watched a man pushing 7 ft. tall drop one on the floor (not carpeted) at the cigar/hookah bar I hang out at and it didn't even chip it.

BTW if you are looking for shisha suggestions try out Blue Mist by Starbuzz. Also another company that I never hear about, but enjoy their stuff is Ayam Zaman. This stuff is not highly flavored like the more modern shisha most people are used to and only has a handful of flavors, but I like it a lot. I would suggest only buying a small sample though if you plan to try it just to make sure it is for you first.

+1 and not just to Blue Mist; Starbuzz shisha in general is pretty delicious. My wife got me a little one hose Mya hookah last Christmas and I love it. There is a hookah forum I belong to and occasionally view which has some helpful hints and tips on it as well:

Best of luck and enjoy! It can be some really delicious stuff.

Though I must say that the tutorial linked by Slash here on the B&B boards is incredibly useful starting info in and of itself, and as its on our boards, makes for some one-stop information gathering! :)
