Honing...by a beginner for beginners

After a few years and practice with synthetics, coticules, Arkies, Thuri, and JNATs, I now finish all of my razors with one of 2 methods.

1. Shapton 1K if I need a bevel, then a JNAT with slurry all the way to the finish.

2. Shapton 1K, JNAT all the way to the finish, then a different finishing stone after if I want a different final edge finish.

Seriously, I’ve found a good JNAT will cover every step of the mid range process without having to use a progression of other grit stones after the bevel setter. I also found it quite easy to learn. I would recommend it highly for anyone getting into honing because JNATs and slurry - in my experience - don’t require different amounts of pressure, just a naturally diluting slurry and the slurry helps create a very straight and clean edge at the apex. It’s like a self correcting, no chance of a burr method. Just my experience.
