Hone Mix-Up: Roll or Return?

So I bought a Spyderco Fine on eBay. I open the package and I have brand new Spyderco Ultra Fine. Paid like $39. Which is a good price for a UF, but it's not what I wanted.

I was looking to have a touch up hone.

Should I:

A) Keep it and use it as a touch up hone.
B) Keep it, because it's a good price, and buy a Fine.
C) Return it and ask for a Fine.

Is it too fine for my purposes?

The ultra fine is a finishing stone. The fine is more of an 8k stone. You can shave off the fine, but the ultra fine is a better finish.

I would keep it, the fine being an 8k is not the perfect touch up hone,
to touch up razors that are slightly dulled and need to be refreshed quickly.
I would finish with paste after the F.
So now you have an UF wich is a highly regarded finisher.
You will produce better edges with the UF and cn give your razor a couple of strokes,
to refresh it and shave right off.
I think the UF is the better choice.

Try it, finish a razor on it and see if you like the edge.
If not, you can return it anyway

I say contact the vendor and let them know what happened. They will probably tell you to keep it at the price you already paid. If they want you to return it they should be responsible for the shipping cost.

The Spyderco fine is rated at 1800 ANSI grit . The Spyderco UF is 2000 on the same American scale . As one can see not much of a difference . The UF stone is a finished off - fine stone per Spyderco .

As stated before the Spyderco fine is roughly = to a 8000 Japanese waterstone or 1.2um in grit .

Keep it . It should put a nice polish on the edge .
