Newbie Dink! here, first attempt at tincturing was a success! Captain Morgan, Smirnoff, Allspice, McCormick Orange Extract, McCormick Allspice, McCormick Bay Leaves (I know wrong kind but you gotta do what you gotta do with limited resources while the EOs are in transit) and some McCormick Cinnamon Sticks. All measurements were pretty much eyeball. Mixture went into a glass Snapple bottle and under the vanity sink for 1 1/2 weeks (10 days or so) We could not take it anymore had to bottle it up in our Smoked Chipotle Tabasco bottle (perfect size stopper for AS!) Had to MacGuyver together a filtration device courtesy of Coca-Cola bottling and coffee filters, don't mind the dual purpose turkey flavor injector/bottle filling device seen in the photos. And it smells AMAZING!!! My room mate will be taking it for a test drive tomorrow, shaving in the name of Schience!

And test drive it I will. Along with a tweak on my home brew pre-shave oil.
Great Job !!! Love the pics !!! I have tried various Bay Rum recipes and have used both type bay leaves. The aftershave made from the regular supermarket bay leaves is IMO much better. I have also made a batch of A/S using only 100 proof Vodka and then adding sliced Lemon, Lime, Orange and Grapefruit. Let it sit a few weeks then filter and use. I put in fridge for a nice A/S chill. Go easy on the Lemon or it will overtake the other scents. Go extra on the Orange.

Nice pics good idea using the tabasco bottle. I never thought of that. I've made my own aftershavr using everclear and Myers dark rum. I used a zester you should be able to find one in any super market and you should be able to find the pimento racemosa oil online. A buddy of mine said the women he works with always ask him what does he have on when he wears the bay rum aftershave I made gor him.
There is some pimento racemosa inbound. This one doesnt have a real strong bay scent to it. The orange oil and spice kick ya first, then the cinnamon and bay seem to linger. I will be testing it, soon.
Very nice improvised filtration system. And the hot sauce bottle is a stroke of genius, I wouldn't have thought of that. Way to follow through on the project!
I just got done shaving. A simple 2 pass over a day of stubble. The AS worked great, although, not as much satisfying burn as I was expecting. It seemed to give a nice tightening to the skin, and smells great! All-in-all, it worked out great!

Thanks for all the replies guys, we're definitely going to be making more in better quantity this time! The burn is a good thing though so we may have to tweak a little. I'm glad you were schatisfied with the fruits of our not so much labor. Improvised!? That was carefully thought out! But seriously it did work great though good idea Shane. And Tabasco bottle, genius, I wouldn't go that far, but well yeah it was pretty genius. It was fun running around the room looking for suitable AS bottles and the "AHA" moment when we found the right size bottle with the right size stopper and the ensuing cookoff to free up more AS receptacles. More wings soon? 
I guess I need to make some more chicken wings to use up the Tabasco sauce and have another AS bottle.

Alphonse, I can't wait to make some whiskey aftershave! JD sounds like the best candidate for me. Emanon that is a pretty epic story sorry to hear about the loss of the bottle, how's the dog doing? And yes it's makeshift but we make due with what all we can find in our foreign country. Moonshine would be pretty interesting And time will tell, hopefully it'll turn out amazing though like the original batch!

If you want to add some more skin goodies to the mix, consider adding Glycerin, Witchhazel, and Castor oil. All are good for your skin. YMMV.
This sounds like a wonderful project. I also agree with Hirsute some witch hazel or oils would be a great addition to that.

Gus1942, don't tempt me I have thought about it! Hirsute we have made some pretty awesome pre-shave oil, I think I may start a thread about that now too! EloquentRune it is a fun project it has turned out so much better than I could've imagined, but we haven't stopped yet we keep making more and more, check out my thread about pre-shave oil I'm going to make now.
