What's new

Holidays and Partying-

I did (I'm sure I'm not the only one). That's a message that needs to be delivered. It's not easy to watch, but those decisions and consequences are far, far harder to live with.

We drove home (TX) from Alabama after Christmas 2008 and saw the aftermath of several wrecks on the freeway. The stress of keeping my family safe on the remaining drive was incredible.

Like Spivey, it's the kind of thing always on my mind driving from Texas to Bama and back. Naturally, everywhere else, too, but being as those longer trips is where I've experienced seeing the most and worst wrecks along the interstates, it's where it's most prevalent in my mind.

Shouldn't be, everytime you get in the car, you're taking such a risk, even if it's 3/4 mile down the street to the grocery store.

I never do, never have, and never drive under any influence - I can guarantee that because I never partake of anything to become under the influence of - but that doesn't take the risk away, unfortunately.

And yes, we need to get our spines back here in the States and make PSAs like this to air all over the place. Which is worse? Hide our heads in the sand about the realities and dangers of DUI/DWI due to graphic representative portrayals, or experience it first-hand due to ignorance?

Drive defensively folks. Treat driving like you (are supposed to, anyway) treat guns, as if they're always loaded...you never know if you really are playing Russian roulette with another driver's poor decisions.

Thanks Jim

I watched it all. Here is another one that is from the US. Not exactly the same thing, but still very powerful. Gives me chills every time I watch it. It is shown here in our Squadrons during safety briefings. It should be shown to all teenagers, and in schools.

I watched it all, and absolutely understand the message and intent of the original poster in providing the reminder about our responsibilities as drivers/passengers/motorists/partiers/partners/friends/relatives... It's important every day, but especially during holiday season due to the confluence of inexperienced drivers, poor weather conditions, and increased alcohol consumption.

That being said, a warning about the graphic nature of the material in the posted video might be in order for those with more delicate sensibilities. The first couple of accidents featured are not devoid of very graphic representations of accidents (the motorcyclist being run over one occurs only two seconds after the first crash is pictured), so simply replying that viewers unexpectedly exposed to the images can simply turn it off is probably not good enough, even for those of us with great reflexes.

...the one with the young boy getting run down is particularly awful to watch.

That was brutal but effective. Thanks for posting it.

Honestly, I'm shocked at how recklessly people drive in general, even if they're not intoxicated. It's like they're completely oblivious to the possible consequences.

I know what you mean. I live ten minutes from where that drunk driver killed herself and seven other people driving the wrong way last year (I'm sure many of you heard about it.) I think about it every time I'm on that road.

Wow.

After watching said video (to the end), I will definitely be driving carefully this year. And giving myself double the wait time if I have a drink.

Thank you for the reminder.

I wanna be sedated!
I was going to post it, and then I see you already did. All of our branches in my company are going to be shown it today. The US could take some lessons from the Australians and show these type of announcements.................If it would not make some folks stop and think...........I don't know what would.

Thanks Jim
