HJM Boar Brush by Muhle?? Any Reports?

I just picked up a HJM boar brush (made by Muhle) from Shaveabuck. It will join (and perhaps replace) my Omega #49 boar w/ red handle.

Great price by the way $12.99, with a free tube of Derby or Arko shaving cream. :thumbup1:

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this brush? Thanks.

I recently purchased this HJM boar from a member here on B&B.

Pretty typical boar, takes a while to break in (still working on it after two weeks), a little bit smelly, and I've only lost a couple hairs. I think they are a good buy, after all, they're made in Germany and come with a tube of cream.

I bought one from Joe too. I got the one in the middle; the faux tortoise. It was a really great looking brush, but I sold mine because I wanted something a little more dense. Decent brush, though, for the price. If the knot had been packed out a little more I would have loved it.

Just thought I would report in on this brush, as I have been using it every day for about the last two weeks.

As mentioned above, I bought it to replace/ supplement my Omega #49 Pro boar which is a phenomenal brush, but also downright huge. I wanted something closer in size to my Penworks 22mm Finest Badger.

The brush is certainly about equal in size to the Penworks brush, but I am disappointed with the overall quality.

While my Omega has a knot of hair that is all of the same length, with all of the hairs pointing downward, the HJM/Muhle boar brush has hairs that go in every possible direction, and some of them are very short.

It's not as aesthetically pleasing as the Omega. It also seems to shed at least one hair per shave.

I will likely buy a smaller loft Omega to replace this soon (that I probably should have bought in the first place).

Hey, strange.
Muhle (though hjm branded) products with quality issues?

I just ordered these brushes as I am curious to find out how they behave.

At 6 euro's I hope these will be exceptional value.
Cannot go wrong with German quality in general.

So a pity you got yourself a shredder.

I'll see what happens with mine.

I was thinking about this brush last night during my shave. I pulled out one of my HJM boar brushes and used it with the vintage Hoffritz Ive been trying out, sort of an, all-German shave.
Anywho, I was thinking about this brush vs some other brushes in the $10-20 range (as these brushes can be had on Amazon for $11-19) and I think that if you want a great, inexpensive, entry-level German brush, its a great option.
If you dont care, I think the Omega S-Brush or Phoenix Atomic Rocket are better options. I feel like they both outperform the HJM and cost the same. Id actually say the Atomic Rocket is a steal of a brush. A 26mm synthetic with a heavy handle for $12? The Omega is a great brush too and a lot of brush for the money.
