History of my razor...Help..

I am fairly new to wetshaving, and brand new to anything in regard to straight razors...I literally know nothing. I was recently given this razor, which belonged to my great grandfather. My cousin, who gave it to me, pointed out the case had an American Flag on it...and my great grandfather fought in WWI...leading him to suggest it might be military issue. For all I know it was made yesterday. Anyway, I just want to know anything I can about it. Here are various angles of the blade and the case. I have not done anything to it as of yet, I may sent this off to be restored by a pro, though I'm gonna see how I do restoring my other less valuable ones first. One side of the tang says "SUPERB" and the other says...I think... "GEO. WOSTENHOLM&SON SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND".

Here are the pics...anything you can tell me, such as quality, history, age, whether it is in fact military issue, when it was made, who made it...etc....anything obvious and non-obvious...let me know if you do:

I don't know whether or not Wosty's were ever issued to the military - cases and razors are often mixed up, so it may or may not be original.

In any case, your razor was made post 1891 - you can tell by the England stamp which appeared in compliance with the Madrid Trade Treaty (or accord or something... I don't know exactly what it was called, but it required the country of origin stamped on goods). Wosty's are fantastic razors, and I have heard (I don't know if it's true) that the pipes are supposed to be made from better steel than their other razors.

She doesn't look to have much wear, though the staining and possibly pitting right near the edge may be an issue. I cannot really tell, as the photo's don't show the edge very well. If you can get her shave ready, she'll be a pleasure to shave with.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can do som research and find out more...any ideas on resources?

I think if you run some searches on variations of wostenholm + pipe + razor you'll get a ton of info.

My wosties are awesome shavers.

What's "pipe" and how do you know it's "pipe"?

Pipe was one of the trademarks of Wostenholm. I've traced the outline from your pic to give you a better idea what it looks like
