Hi everyone! I'm putting the band together; questions await inside :)

Well, the "band" is now together! I didn't shave yesterday, tomorrow will be go time. Which blade is best for a first timer? I apologize if that was covered previously, if so, I've forgotten. Regarding the alum block I received, is it normal for the inside to look more crystalline or should it be a uniform solid?
Pretty excited, going to go watch some youtube videos today. Thank you everybody for pitching in to help me become informed enough to dive in. Really, really appreciate the response!

Which blade is best for a first timer?

"Best" is not the same for everyone,hence the sampler.

IMHO, fip a coin between Rapira Platinum Lux and Astra SS (not SP). Nice combination of sharp and smooth.

I had my first wet shave this morning, it was great! Could not believe it was removing my 3 day growth it felt like nothing! One little weeper under the nose but that was good too because it allowed me to tryout my alum block. Score! Best one pass shave ever!
