What's new

Hey Mr. Can I Have That ?

I know we see lots of threads about borrowing your pens around, and I'm not much of a fan of letting people borrow some of my softer nibs out there, but today I had a new one.... they person actually had the nerve to ask to keep my pen...

Ive had flirty woman ask for lighters pens, or other nick nacks of mine, trying to bat an eyelash to swoon me into coughing something up, but this was of the male side of the species, he noticed my Parker 51 and asked if he could borrow it to write something, after scribbling something completely unreadable down he pondered its greatness for a few moments then put it in his pocket and asked to have it,...

When I asked for it back and explained he could not keep it he had a bit of a tantrum as well....

I don't care if it was his 5th Bday, its my pen and he cant have it.

Luckily his mom came over and recovered the pen for me,
the nerve of some people

FYI I gave him a balloon and a fancy twist ball point that had a highlighter in the back of it one of my tire reps gave me and he was all good

Pretty risky, letting a five-year-old use a "51" if I may say.

He was sitting down in a chair three times is size so he couldn't drop it I didn't mind to much... I was right there with him making sure he wasn't going to do anything bad

There was about a half-second when I was wondering - what kind of dude would have the stones to try such a stunt? - and then I actually laughed out loud. Well played, James. You're lucky nobody wound up with ink on their face. Literally. :)

Seriously. One of the most popular school pens around here.

well I wont see him again probably, and I dont usually talk to kids around enough to keep one on hand, but if I ever get caught in the great capture the flag game of life and have kids, Ill be keeping some around to keep sticky juice hands off my pens

I carry cheapies with me for just that purpose. Its a pita at times but some folks have tantrums rather than accepting responsibility for their forgetfulness. Now kids...I haven't run into that, knock on wood.

I was taught by someone I will miss very much that one should always hang on to the cap of a pen they would like returned. It's solid advice I have followed for the last 21 years and I have never had a pen swiped by mistake.

Don't buy a capless then

Btw, who taught you that? Your dad or granddad?

My dad told me the same thing. I've also made it a habit to not post a pen unless I absolutely have to. That way when I open a pen the cap automatically goes into my other hand without even thinking.
