What's new

hey guys - it's been a while - new soap recommendation?

So I've been at this DE shaving thing for a few years now. I've been using mamma bears soaps for about two years now. before that I was using prairie creations. I'm thinking I might finally try out tabac or MWF.

I was looking around and someone said to load your brush with tabac and then lather in a bowl. Is tabac soft? I'm just a little cautious because I have a brush that is great for face lathering but it just absorbs creams creams when I lather in a bowl.

Also, has there been anything new and wonderful in the world of shave soaps in the past couple of years?

Both Tabac and MWF are hard soaps in my books. You can face lather with them, no issues. As for new soaps, well, there are some every month!

The two you asked about are great soaps and perfectly suitable for face lathering. I'd also recommend Mike's as far as stuff that is new on the scene. Prairie Creations is now making soaps again.

You will have no shortage of suggestions from which to choose! That said, I like your original suggestions of two very fine classic hard soaps. They are wonderful performers and will serve you well for quite some time. I have them both and am very fond of them...Tabac is on deck for tomorrows shave. I face lather and they both perform well for me. I hope that you enjoy what ever you select.

Doug

I would do exactly that and try MWF first. It's a clean non-offensive scent. Tabac on the other hand smells like a old man. People here will say it smells awesome and all that, and I have to agree that the scent has grown on me. BUT when I first smelled it I threw up in my mouth a bit. Ask Lily at WCS. She was there.
MWF has a reputation (and deservedly so) for being a great soap with awesome face care properties and will reward you with a great shave. If you are really on the fence over which to choose, buy a sample of both from Gary. Good luck!

Of the two you mention, I would unhesitatingly say opt for the MWF. It is superb. Also consider one of the D.R. Harris soaps. The performance is exceptional.

I highly recommend tabac I've found nothing that performs better. For something new mikes and mystic water are fantastic and the performance is right up there with the best.

The implication here is is generally "versus building lather on the soap itself" but it's impossible to say for certain without knowing what comment you're speaking of. As always, consider the source.

Highly subjective/YMMV. Popular soaps tend to have active threads in here. Best bet is to see what's being talked about that doesn't sound familiar to you.
