Hi, I picked up a puck of Herban Cowboy's "Dusk" scented soap today at my local organics co-op. I'm a big fan of products that do not use animal products (something about the idea of rubbing rendered fat on my face bothers me) and I loved the scent so I went ahead and gave it a shot. I went through my normal shave ritual which is to take a hot shower, lathering my face with conditioner while scrubbing my body so that the hairs on my face are softer. When I hopped out of the shower to shave, I started trying to lather up the soap but it just would not lather well. I prefer my shaving soaps creamy not bubbly since I have sensitive skin. After several minutes of trying I go ahead and give it a shot. The lather felt light and bubbly and after a single pass my skin was agitated. I tried whipping some more lather thinking that I may have had too much water in my mix but still no joy. I switch back over to my normal shaving soap and finish the job. I do not recommend if you have sensitive skin and really rely on your lather to protect your face. The scent was great and why I bought it initially but form follows function and this soap is not functional for what I need. Do not recommend.

You aren't alone. Herban Cowboy soap is generally regarded around here as junk. I don't like to throw away any product, but I binned my puck. I wouldn't send HC to my worst enemy...

I did some Googling before posting this because I know some soaps are a bit harder to lather or lather differently but across the board my experience was consistent with the reviews. I'm actually returning it to my co-op because of how bad it was and sticking with the Van Der Hagen Deluxe Shave Soap I get from Wal-Mart.
I've always heard the same thing about this stuff.... which is why I've never touched it. Thanks for your review.

In my opinion it is the single, worst shaving soap ever made
That was my second puck of "shaving soap" I ever got. Picked it up at Whole Foods and it was awful. It barely made a lather, it was thin, and it offered no cushion or slickness. The worst razor burn I've ever experienced. Its since been relegated to shower soap and not that good at that either.
Shame this puck doesn't work well as a shaving soap, the scent is wonderful.
My experience did not vary from the rest here. I tried some a couple years ago. I really liked the fragrance but the lathering properties left me wanting. After 5-6 shaves I used it as a bath bar.
Herban Cowboy shave soap is useless. It is unquestionably the worst shave soap I have ever tried.
(If you are looking for vegan soap I suggest you to try Napa Soap Ocean Blend. Stunningly great performer that has earned a place in my top rotation. the currently shipping formulation, not the old one.)

Only soap I could never get at least a decent shave with. It made a great smelling soap for the shower though.
