You are still learning how to use a DE, so I think you should worry about getting a great shave. You've only done it twice, and it takes a while to get comfortable. Practice makes perfect. In the meantime, we're here to help any way we can.

If you're interested in learning about soaps I'd suggest you check out the shaving soap forum. There is tons of information in there about TOBS, Mike's and every other soap you can think of.

Your skin actually may not be sensitive. I have tried a few soaps, and keep going back to VDH ( VAN DER HAGEN DELUXE ) It is a low cost soap and performs alot better than canned gels or creams. It explodes out of the razor when dipped into the water. I would recommend it to absolutely everybody. If you have problems after using a soap like this one then you may have sensitive skin. Another thing is the burn with aftershave. Aftershave in lots of cases may have some bite even if you have not shaved in days. I can throw on some Old Spice and if I do not give it a brisk rub, It will bite or burn. The bite or burn is much worse if you were too aggressive with your passes. I have had some shaves which have seemed totally fine but the aftershave application was the telling tale. It is best when you are starting out to try a mild razor paired with a blade which works well for you. Go really easy, be really careful and take baby steps in this process and keep the razor well rinsed and as wet as possible. Whip up a good thick lather and apply it to your WET face and see if that also helps. Use very little pressure, you can touch up the areas on the final pass. The more you drag the edge of the blade across your face, the more likely irritation will occur.
I started out really well and started having problems with irritation and thought I had sensitive skin. The real problem ( for me ) was razor burn, and I was too rushed in my process. I hope I have helped. Best of luck to you and enjoy your shave journey.
