Help with pre shave oil

I have oily skin and was wondering if this means I shouldn't use pre shave oil. Anybody with oily skin care to comment? If so, which would you reccomend?
Thanks

I have oily skin too - I recommend do not use pre shave oil. I never do and do not see a point in using one no matter the skin type.

I used to have oily skin, but I have never used Pre-Shave before. I would wash your face with a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil. Then proceed as normal. Or if you don't want to wash it, just used water to get off all the excess oil you can.

I tried shave secret oil for my first shaves. It is light and non greasy. Having said that I use no oil now. Don't see any real benefit or improvement for me.

Don't waste your money on the oil man. If you're anything like the rest of us, you'll eventually stop using it. Good prep and lather does everything that pre-shave products could ever do. I've got pretty oily skin as well. I wash my face a lot throughout the day.

I have moderately oily skin, nothing serious, and I very seldom use a Pre-Shave product. When I use a Pre Shave, I use Castle Forbes which advertises itself as water soluble (non oil based). Recently, I purchased a tube of Real Shaving Company shaving cream. I loved the lather, but it was not as slick as I could have wished, so I tried it with the CF Pre-Shave and that did the trick. I applied it with a small cotton ball.

So, I would use a Pre-Shave (Castle Forbes), but only with certain products which need it.

I tried pre-shave oil, several different brands, and some quite expensive. I see absolutely no benefit. The bad part is getting that "grease" all over your hands, and then trying to hold your razor.

Pre-shave oil truly is a YMMV product. Some swear by it, others swear at it and some around here even make their own. For me, I like using pre-shave oil (T&H is my favorite), and I believe it's worth the time, cost and effort for the bit of added protection it provides. For whatever it's worth, I doubt the use of pre-shave oil is precluded by one having oily skin-- lather and blade, follwed by a rinse likely removes it. If you haven't tried it and are curious, there's not much to lose in checking it out.

I am relatively new here and I have tried only 2 pre-shave oils: AoS Sandalwood and Taconic Organic. I will not buy the AoS product again. It is too thick, almost like tar and it does not give me the protection that the Taconic does. Using the same shave cream or soap, I will have less razor burn and fewer nicks with the Taconic than with the AoS. I will probably use up the AoS, but only with Tabac. I won't buy it again. Taconic is half the AoS price.

As for oily hands - I wash mine after putting on the oil.

Pre-shaves (oil or otherwise) don't do a thing for me - but that doesn't mean they won't be good for you. There is really only one way to find out. Some guys swear by them and even use them between passes.
