Help with identifying super speed

I'm new to identifying old gillettes. I know the 40s super speed has a dispenser knotch at the top and no date code. This razor I guess has the same design as that model but the code says Y-2. Any help? Thanks!

It's a 40's style SuperSpeed made in the second quarter of 1953. That style was still made into 1954. A very nice razor.

You have a 40's style Superspeed, built in the second quarter of 1953, the last year for the 40's style Superspeed.

The 40's style Superspeed came in un-notched, and notched versions. The notched versions are newer. Models from 1947-1949 also lacked a date code.

See chart for dating Gillette's here: US Gillette Dating Information

A couple quick updates, the last year for the 40's style Super Speed was 1954 (a year that also debuted the 50's style Flare Tip Super Speed, production overlapped that one year).

The date code (which can be referenced in the Wiki here for all Gillettes) appeared as we know it in 1951 (beginning with W, and using 1-4 to designate quarter of the year). There were some run the year before with a V on the raised diamond area (not real certain on the specifics of this "test" of the date code, seems all I've heard of were V 3 markings).

Lastly (first, actually ), the 1947 model did not have the notched center bar, and had a slightly different profile blade tray than later models.
