Help with identification of boxed pre-war Gillette razor

I recently acquired this Gillette DE razor. To my inexperienced eye it looks like Gillette Single Ring, but with one major difference (and a few minor ones) that is clearly visible in the photos. It looks as if it has been replated, but I can't tell for sure.

I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me to identify this Gillette razor.

It does look like a Single Ring to me. That case is unusual, never seen one that hinges on the top like that.

Are there any Patent Numbers? You'll probably find them on the inside part of the handle. That will help you pin a date range on it.

Thanks for the case identification Alex. :001_smile

Nope, nothing on the inside. That's why I believe it was replated. Also, I thought that the open-comb part and the outside of the handle should be one instead of two parts of the razor. :confused1

From Oct 18 1927 to Aug 27 1928, there were no serial numbers used. ...this is unusual, the cap looks like a Darwin type cap with the mark on top

Neither the handle nor the cap look quite right to me. Maybe they came from an old clone? The owner might have had two razors with lost or damaged parts, and combined them.

How does it shave?

I haven't tried it yet. I tried Ball End Old Type a few months ago and it was a bit aggressive for me, so I'm still contemplating should I try this one.

I acquired this Gillette mostly because of the interesting case and rather nice condition of the razor (even if it was replated).
