Help with ID.

You did very well. Yes, that is an Old Type. You have a huge amount of silver plate left on that fellow. Scrubbing Bubbles and then a very, very gently polish, like Maas, look for it, its worth it!!! The bottom little ball should remain intact and of a single piece with the handle. Some purists may disagree, I would epoxy that back in there in a second, so it never, ever comes out. I love that particular Old Type, I would guess its from the 20's. I would use a nice, not too crazy sharp blade in it like a Red Israeli Personna or an Astra Superior. Enjoy!!!!

That is indeed an Old Type. Off the top of my head they were made up to '29 or '30 but that's the best I can do for you on dating. Someone will be along shortly, I'm sure, to help with that.

+1 on everything DJE says . . . :thumbup1:

Congrats on a nice score . . . epoxy that ball end and enjoy a special shave!!

Let us know how it turns out for you!!!

Sounds like a great plan. I'm only on my 3rd day of using a DE (1950 SS) and already have a few other razors to try out as well. I think I'm going to move this one up to try it next. Do you guys think super glue could work to keep the ball tip in place? Also, where is the best place to buy an assortment of blades to try out?

Many fellows have used super glue with good success while others have used epoxy. Either way just make sure it is good and clean. On other thing you should be mindful of is not to use any glue that will expand as it could very well split the tube.

Nice score, enjoy it!

Check out westcoastshaving.com they have a great blade sampler and a huge selection of blades.

Great website. Thanks for that and thanks for advice on the epoxy. I'm going to try the super glue tomorrow after I pick up some scrubbing bubbles.
