Help with Filly Strop

I bought a filly strop recently. I had some instructions and cannot find them. I think I tossed them with the box :bored: What do I use to condition the leather? The strop seems like it needs some loving... Would I use oil, conditioner, something special? I have some leather conditioner (Coach & Ecco for belts and shoes - I doubt you would use this but who knows).

Your thoughts?

Ken recommends using nothing more than the oils from one's own hand to keep his strops in shape. Give it a quick rub down each time before you use it.

The old time barber's manuals say to rub in some lather (I am assuming tallow based, for that good beef fatty feel).

I just did that to a vintage Illinois strop I got off of Ebay, and it seemed to do a nice job lubing up the leather.

The filly was my first strop. I never used anything to condition the leather.
I would just rub my palm on it from time to time. It still works great.

you could always use a little neatsfoot oil to get it where you like then after that just hand rub it for maintenance.

Farm feed kind of stores carry it. If you like I can send you enough to cover one strop just pay ship. Send me a pm if you are interested.

Ok, no worries.. There is a feed store a few miles from here... Hard to believe it but its true. Ill see if they sell it =) Thanks sir, you are always very helpful.

Neatsfoot Oil is also available in most hardware stores. It's pretty cheap for a bottle too. Usually in the cleaners and polishes section. HTH!

I bought some neetsfoot oil from the feed store this weekend. I oiled the front of the strop up nice and good. Since it has green paste on the back. I didnt oil it from the rear as I figured it would make a bit of a mess.
