Help with 50 dollar brush?

Can anyone recommend a nice badger brush for $50 or less?
It's for my son, who has problems with ingrown hairs on his neck. He's been using a walmart synthetic brush, and I thought he might get better results with real badger.
I have a Vulfix #403 Mayfair.
How would your recommendation compare?

Thanks.

I may not have any particular advice for you but I must say that would be a most wonderful gift for your son :001_smile I've heard that KENT makes great quality badger brushes and most of them are within the 50 dollar range:thumbup1:

[Edit:] I've heard good things about Pen Works' brushes, too. Haven't tried one, but they have offerings in your price range, too.

I'll second this. I have 3 Penworks brushes and they're a great value for the money. Used one today actually.

Rooney was offering some nice brushes for ~$40 a few months ago but I can't find them anymore - maybe they are finished.

+1 for penworks.

If you order before Dec 15th (best hurry), there is a 10% off discount when use "B&B" for a coupon code, which pays for shipping.

And hello to a fellow Arkansan.

I'd suggest a good boar brush instead, like the Omega Professional. I would choose it over either of the cheaper badger brushes that I owned.

Thanks for the response. You gents have given me quite a bit to look at!
I'd never heard of penworks before. Looks like nice stuff. I notice that some of the cheaper silvertip brushes mention they are silvertip and "extra hair". Does that mean that it's not all silvertip?
I will look into all of your suggestions.

TWO options, IMO....

1.) Vulfix 374: I've had this for a few years. It definitely is a daily use brush; its lost perhaps 3 hairs since new. It's also INCREDIBLY dense. I got mine from Royalshave...Peter is an awesome guy who will -voluntarily- take the time out of his day to spend 5,10 minutes discussing the various options with you and will suggest based on your needs, not sale cost. (He has it listed at $54 and change, add the 14% off he is advertising on the homepage and it comes to ~$52 delivered to your door.

2.) The Royalshave PB2; handmade of 'first rate badger' in Germany (I wonder who could be making these quality brushes in Germany for him :wink2: ) A friend of mine new to wetshaving picked this up a few months ago, and hasn't looked back since. I've 'kicked the tires' so to speak on this brush, and it is top notch. With the same code mentioned above, it comes to $29, delivered.

Best of luck on your quest!

Thanks all.
I went with a 24mm finest badger from penworks. Also got him a nice chrome plated razor/brush stand.
With shipping, $57.95.

Whipped dog. High mountain badger. I really like mine. It is as soft, tip wise on the face, as my Rudy Vey. And only 30 bucks shipped.

:boat: I'll bet the OP has gotten his $50 brush as this is a five year old thread! :facep:

Or maybe not.
