Help on new Razor

I currently us a 38C as my daily go to and also have an older superspeed that I use when I want a change. Deciding an what razor to get next. I get a close shave 80% of the time with my 38C but notice if I shave daily I have to "work" a little harder to get bbs, where if I shave every other day its much easier. At first I used Derby's now between Gillette 7 O'Clocks and Personna Red pack blades. Thinking maybe feathers will do the trick but also debating between a Merkur Slant 39C or Progress. Anyone have ideas what may work to get a true bbs every time? I'm using Gentleman's Best soap Semogue 750 Badger and my lather is perfect and always shave after a hot shower. Prep is wash my face and let the hot water run over it for a min or 2.

Wait I forgot, I'll just head down and pay Ray (Thirdeye) a visit, only 15 min away and he has all this in stock:001_tongu, what was I thinking lol. Serious though what direction should I take

Thanks in advance

Paul

I would go with the Progress. It will give you the flexibility to adjust your blade exposure to suit how resistant your beard is to getting shorn.

Have you thought of the open comb? I've had a couple of slants and I just don't care for them. I find the head to be too thick, and I don't find the shave to be all its cracked up to be. Now keep in mind that that's just me. Everyone has to find what works best for themselves. The slant gives a different shave, not to say its a better shave, but you'll have to find out for yourself to be sure.

The open comb just might be the answer for you. The head is thinner on one, and the blade is right on the skin, thus giving a closer and more aggressive shave. I've found that for me, the open comb gives a mush better shave that a slant.

Keep in mind that the only one who'll know you've got a BBS, will be you. Trying for the BBS everyday is going to expose your face to nicks and razor burn. There is nothing at all wrong with a DFS, or even a CCS. Take the BBS when it comes along, but the DFS or the CCS is very nice for everyday. :thumbup1::thumbup1:

I think blade choice is more important than the razor you use. Even though there is some difference between razors, overall they are pretty much the same in my opinion. Blades on the other hand differ a lot between the various brands. Some blades shave like recycled cans whereas others are smooth as silk. I've been where you are now and have found that the choice of razor did not make the difference for me.
