Help! My pen is skipping!

I've not been posting much, but am really enjoying my FPs. Up until recently. This week actually. My favorite pen, here, has started skipping when I start to write. Every time. As in I can write a not, talk with a client for 20-30 seconds, and it skips when I start to take another not. I am using Private Reserve ink. If it were just after extended breaks I could deal with it. But not this. What do I do? Is it the nib, the ink, the pen, or the operator??

may be ink and pen, PR ink is pretty saturated, if its in to long can clog up a bit... flush it, maybe try another ink see if it continues to happen

also nibs can dry out if air passes over it if your not putting the cap back on when not in use it can accelerate the problem, although 20-30 seconds shouldn't be an issue

Thanks James. I'll flush it good, use soap and such. I just refilled it the first of the week.

Yeah I thought A drop of dish soap to a bowl was good,... I have done this with some really stuck stains.... Ive never seen anyone say Noooooo before,.... so no dish soap at all ever ?,

Its come up in The Nib before, should it not be ?

A drop in a bunch of water, If you see bubbles....way to much !!!!!

Was it skipping before the Private reserve?

Now I'm in suspense. Soap vs. detergent thing? Other than flushing a new pen with water and a couple of drops of dishwashing detergent I've not done much other than using water to flush my pens.

I had the same issue with PR ink (Midnight Blues Fast-Dry). I sometimes had to rinse the nib under water and wipe it down when first removing the cap from the pen after a couple days, and then it would generally work fine. I'm going to stick with my other options until I have the right circumstances to make it work for me - I do like the color. In another pen, I had PR Black cartridges and never had a problem. Sometimes I think it's just a matter of finding the right match of pen, ink, and usage patterns. Maybe that should say "all the time". Good luck Johnnie.

Is soap bad for all pens or just vintage? I have used soap suds to clean manufacturing oils out of new pens. Is this bad? If so, why? I'm not questioning your knowledge, Brian; just trying to learn and prevent potential problems.

Soap is fine, except for pens like "51s" that have a very hard to rinse out collector. I've used soap for years, sometimes lots of it, just be sure to rinse well.

So sac style pens use a tiny amount and be thourough with a rinse... open style fillers like converters shouldn't be a problem specially in open nib/feed systems ?

It's not the sac it's the complicated collector, which acts as a feed in Parker's hooded nib pens.

Now that's hard to rinse!

In Sheaffers and Esties I use soap now and then on the guts without any worries.
