Help! My face is on fire!

The last few shaves I've done, I've gotten some bad burn. Originally I thought maybe I was using too much pressure. Took a few days off and let my face recover. So I do a shave last night with a completely different set up and after my 2nd pass. My cheeks are burning. Finish up the shave and applied some Pinaud VIBR and it felt like I put some scalding hot water on my face.:scared: I dang neer dropped to my knees.

Looked at my face and noticed that my cheeks are all broke out, like I took rough grit sandpaper to it. Now I have sensitive skin and think I may have figured out what I'm doing wrong? But want to check with you guys. When I prep I take a hot shower and was my face with Pears (glycerin) facial soap. I think the Pears is having a reaction with the soap/cream and breaking my face out. Anyone else ever have an issue like this?

Also what can I use on my face to clear it up and put the burn out? I tried Aloe Vera gel and it burns. Everyman Jack lotion burns. I'm out of ideas. I had a terrible nights sleep as I can feel my face burning on the pillow all night. It has calmed down some now. But I look terrible.

Also I have been using just the facial soap and never had a reaction to it until I started DE shaving afterwords with it. So I think I may have to use on or the other. No more using both in the same day.

Please help me!!

Re read your post twice and cannot find what you are using for soap/cream other than your statement "So I do a shave last night with a completely different set up".

Little help? What did you use first that caused you problems and what did you change to that caused you problems

Could you be allergic to your shaving soap or the Pears?

I got a feeling it's a combo of them both. My first few DE shaves when fine. Then I read that it's a good prep idea to not only shower but do a face wash with soap. I just realized yesterday that I've been fine using the pears soap with the electric razor. But since I have been using it in my prep for DE that the pears and the creams/soaps (COB/QCS/Arko/Tabac) don't seem to agree with my face.

Cold water rinse. Pat dry. Apply witch hazel every few hours.

Will do since it's calmed down today some. Yesterday the witch hazel was burning my skin as well.

Sorry I couldn't give you guys a better fist post of what's been hapening. I was short on time as my break was just about over.

Some allergens will not activate a reaction unless they are scratched into your skin. It is possible that you are allergic to the face wash soap, but don't get a reaction when using the electric shaver because there is no scratching. Skip on the face wash soap for a few days. Shower normally. Don't DE until you are better.
If symptoms don't get better, talk to a dermatologist or allergist.

Putting Pinaud VIBR on an already irritated face is bad, that's like trying to sooth a burn by applying the flame from an acetylene torch to it. Try treating your face with some unrefined shea butter. I find this works wonders for healing sensitive skin.

Thanks for the replys

I think you guys are right. I may take a good 5+ days off of DE shaving to let my skin recover. No pears soap either.

Next time I do DE shave. I will skip the pears soap. Never had a reaction until I starting using the Pears and DE shaving. Just started to realize that yesterday. Like I said before. I just thought I was just getting to comfortable with my shaves and applying to much pressure.

Will do the witch hazel and cold water treatment.

You got that right!! That Pinaud VIBR felt like scalding hot water. Lesson learned the hard way.

My advice would be to ditch the facial soap altogether and just use a mild shampoo or shower gel/cream and gently wash your face in the shower. As for the shaving itself, perhaps you should just stick to a single pass and give your face nothing but a good cold water rinse after shaving (without using any AS products).

Last but not least, don't shave too often. If there's no real need to shave every day, just don't do it (even though it's tempting, I know!). People sometimes tend to forget that the human skin is very sensitive and you're actually damaging it to a certain degree every time you shave.

I don't know how you apply lather, or if you've changed something about it, but a brush can also cause burn and increase irritation. If you face lather, try using a bowl, and make sure you use a soft brush. It's better for sensitive skin. Pure Aloe Vera can also help regenerate your skin. It's availale everywhere.

I don't shave everyday. I've been getting a good enough shave to last me a couple of days, since I've been DE shaving.

Will cut back on the amount of passes as well. I was us to 3-4 passes with touch up's. That could be the issue as well. But don't think so, since my face is broken out in places that I don't even shave. (cheek bone)

The Pears transparent soap uses cinnamon oil which caused my face to burn as well so I just used it in the shower rather than a pre-shave soap. Couple that with a bad shave then one of the most aggressive burning aftershaves made (which I have learned to enjoy) and I can see how you might be in a bit of pain. Either man up or make some changes. :tongue_sm

I've been bowl lathering except for the Arko stick I use. I was wondering about the brush. I'm using an Omega 10005 boar brush. But I've been DE shaving with it for a half months now. And just started getting the burn my last 4 shaves or so?

That's what I've been doing using the Pears in the shower. Then washing my face off really well. Getting lot's of warm water on my facial hair. Then when I'm done with the shower I DE shave.

I've been using the VIBR after multiple shaves and while it burns for a few seconds. It never burned like it did yesterday. It was like battery acid. I'm not sure if any guy in his right mind could man up to what I experienced yesterday on a regular basis.

my advice is that you are pushing too hard with the razor and scraping and irritating your face. change blades, make sure your lather is up to par, check the angle of the razor. going from an electric to DE is big change to shaving habits. you have to learn how to prep your face, make a good lather and then deftly manoeuvre a sharp blade around your face - you've never had to do these things before.

excess razor burn is either:
*too much pressure - need to unlearn the bad habits picked up from electric shaving where you have to push to get the whiskers cut - a very light touch is needed (even a little pressure can be too much)
*incorrect blade angle - handle of the razor should be pushed out from your face/neck, if it is parallel to your face then you are scraping not shaving
*too dry or not enough lather - the razor needs a moist cushiony medium so it can slide over your face, if it does not then it will scrape/irritate your skin and tug on your whiskers
*too many passes - I do 3pass max on on the face, 2pass max on the neck as it is too sensitive for any more. often the neck will get just one WTG pass, it still looks fine but not super smooth to the touch but only I or SWMBO can tell that, to everyone else it is still a SAS.
*wrong blade - feathers and my neck don't get along for more than 1pass, try a different blade. I love Derby's but many here do not, they are mild and may work for you.

wetshaving is a journey, keep trying different things. I'm not a fan of Sharks or Feathers but I love Derbys and Astra SPs. most burn problems are due to using too much pressure and wrong angle. ungrit your teeth, relax, and then shave slowly and deliberately, take your time and you will use less pressure.
