I went with 48mm, just to keep consistent. 4mm shorter might have made a difference...

After a couple shaves. It is next to the finest for comparison. I don't have a handle for the silver tip yet, I have been having some problems with turning, possibly sharpness of my chisels...I think I need to regrind and then hone, I have honed them several dozen times and I think the geometry went off.

messing with some ash...defiantly tool sharpness is a problem. I guess rehoning a many times as I have before regrinding doesn't work.
