What's new

Help me pick my next pair of shoes.

Get some shoe trees in those Florshiems. It will help get them back in shape and looking nice and straight, with less creases. Nice score.

Bill,
Shoe selection is all so subjective. I would rather have a couple of pairs of really nice shoes that ten pairs of mediocre. AE is good but depending on where you are there are many good British mid-range options such as Grenson, Trickers and Church's. If you want to stick with American you could also try Alden's but to keep the price down you would have to look for online specials.

Hey all, I am in the market for some new shoes. I have a big government accounting job interview coming up and figured this would be the perfect time to make the upgrade so that I can be well dressed for the interview. I am going to wear my charcoal suit with a white button-up and a tie. Haven't decided on which tie yet. But also, I have been really attracted to wingtips and thinking about getting a black pair to wear with the suit for the interview and also for future work attire. Also thinking about getting the same wingtips but in brown.

I have been "googling" wingtips all day and the more I read about them, the more confused I get. I have been reading that there are wingtip rules (have yet to find them) and that there is a specific type of wingtips that go with suits and then there are specific type of wingtips that do not go with suits at all and would look bad. I do not want to accidentally purchase the wrong wingtips and look like a fool when I show up to my interview.

Also, and this is only because I have a $100 gift card to this store, I have been looking to purchase these wingtips at JCPenney. I know, not the best place. But until I get a better job, I have to be a bit frugal. Plus, it just would be wise to use this gift card before spending elsewhere. And then further down the road after I nail this interview and settle into this new job, then I could upgrade to some higher quality pairs. I went into JCPenney today and I saw two different brand wingtips that seem to fit the business/suit attire. One of Stafford Logan Wingtip Oxfords and the other were JF J. Ferrar Cameron Wingtips.

Also, in the store I saw a pair of Florsheim Lexington Wingtip Oxfords. They looked higher quality than the other two, but double the price. The plan was to get a pair of black and I pair of brown. If I got the Florsheim, then I would just go with black.

What do you guys think? Can you knowledgeable folks offer some insight? not just on what I should get, bus also on general wingtip guidelines and such. Thanks.
