Help Me Pick A TOBS Cream and questions about Proraso

I am gonna take the plunge and buy a TOBS cream because all of you speak so highly of it. The "shave shop" scent sounds interesting but I need one where the scent wont linger too long as I wear cologne. Will Shave Shop work? Are TOBS creams known for light or heavy lasting scents? Suggestions on which ones? I seem to have massive issues when faced with too many choices as the TOBS line provides.:confused1

The one other item I think I am going to buy is the Proraso sensitive with aloe (the one in the white puck). Can anyone confirm that this is actually different than the standard Proraso (at least different enough to justify the purchase)?

As usual, thank you in advance as I am sure I will get some good info.....

Not sure about the TOBS but the white Proraso is different from the green stuff...totally different scent and less menthol. I love it them both! :thumbup1:

Have you thought about getting a sampler pack off TOBS, that's basicly all the scents.
I got the Avocado myself, the smell is great (to me ) and it doesn't linger at all. Once you rinse, it's 95% gone, i have no experience with proraso.

I have 5 different TOBS creams, St James, Rose, Mr Taylor, avocado and almond. I'd go for the St James. A truly top notch cream IMO.

Mr Taylor and Rose! Can't help much with the Proraso, but I have a tube of Bigelow's (which is supposedly Proraso) and a tube of Mr Taylor in my travel kit.

I ordered nearly all of the samples from Gary at Shoebox Shaveshop. My favorite by far was Mr. Taylor. I also enjoyed St. James, Eton, and Shaveshop. I didn't care to much for Sandalwood or Avocado. I have sensitive skin so I ultimately decided to buy a tub of Jermyn Street based on the reviews here. It is at the top of my rotation at the moment. Love the scent. I also have the Proraso white and it is one of my favorites as well. Great scent and nice cooling sensation when rinsing.

Avocado will not linger, IMO. There is also the Sensitive Skin cream in the tan tub (not the black one) that is not fragranced.

The Proraso "ultra sensitive" soap in the white tub is different from the cream in the tube or the soap in the white tub. However, it still does contain some menthol, so if you are allergic to menthol or anything like that stay away. It also has a light fragrance that fades quickly.

TOBS has a sensitive skin formula that isn't scented. I have heard good things.

You get all the benefits of the cream, just no scent.

I have Eton College and Rose but have used St. James and Almond in the past. All are excellent. The cologne based scents are strong in the tub and lighten up during use but not to the point where there is no scent. They soften to the point where they are appropraite for use. The scents do not linger so they will not have an impact on your aftershave or cologne.

I use Proraso extensively too (green tube though) and like the differences between the TOBS and Proraso and enjoy both. A sampler is your best bet and then make a decision on which you want to go with after that. Best of luck.

TOBS Shaving Shop would be an excellent choice. Its my favorite TOBS scent.
Its a clean very refreshing scent with a very subtle citrus note behind it. Smells great when lathered up & the scent is gone 5 minutes after shaving. It wont linger. This is not a cologne based scent.

TOBS Jermyn St sensitive is another clean refreshing scent. I detect a subtle lavender note in it

Hope this helps with your decision but any TOBS you pick will be a good buy. Great creams for your money :thumbup1:

the only TOBS cream ive tried is the Almond and I likes it but i like the sweet/food scented stuff more so than the cologne scents. i think i have too much estrogen or something

I think I've tried about all of Taylor's scents and they are all good. I really liked Shaving Shop A LOT. The one drawback was that I did get a little irritation from using it. I'm out of it now, but I plan to buy it again and see if my face has adjusted to it. If not, I will trade or sell it on here.

Mr. Taylor's and avocado are excellent too. The lavender is good but the AOS lavender is better; it has the best lavender scent out there IMO. But it is pricey $$$

I've tried the Shaving Shop and it has a great scent that doesn't linger too long, IMO. You might try the Avocado, though. I don't particularly care for the scent but the lather is amazing. The scent is pretty mild and doesn't last long.
