Help me narrow down a date please

I posted pictures in the acquisition thread and I’ve been googling but I’m having a horrible time trying to narrow down a date range on this GEM. I know it doesn’t matter but I love the nostalgia and history that comes from knowing when a razor came from. From reading, it looks like someone might be able to narrow it down because of the case and handle but I can’t find anywhere that explains the differences. Any help?

Brother Chris,

The Gem SE razors with this type of handle I suggest were made sometime during 1912 to 1929. That's a nice looking set, but we have no assurance the box or even this handle came with it originally. The best we can do is to make assumptions.

A lotta things can happen during roughly 100 years of use and ownership. And who know how many previous owners there were? If only our razors could talk to us!

Congratulations on a nice purchase.

I think it would have to be from 1919-1933. The GEM Damaskeene 1912's ended in 1919 and the GEM 1912's became GEM Junior's in 1933. What's up with the cap on that razor, does that look weird or what in the second picture?

Was wondering the same, but I am FAR from an expert.

Mid-to-late '20's, I think. Waits says the nickel plated "Peerless" case was issued in 1925; an example of the razor with the same stamps as yours and the scalloped handle is shown as "c. 1928". I know Waits is not infallible, but I tend to think the GEM/ASR/E-R info is pretty reliable.
