Help me like the Merkur Futur.

Hi gents, first of all, sorry about my punctuation. For some reason my return key wont work in this thread. I recently bought a Merkur futur, and I can honestly say if I shut my practical side down, I like everything about the razor. The feedback is the best Ive ever gotten with a DE, the aggressiveness is excellent, the adjustability is easy, and its built like a tank. Its just that Ive always liked the minimalistic side of DE shaving. A simply three piece design, fair pricing. For the price of the Futur, I could have picked up a used SS Ikon or possibly a new Weber. One that would have lasted me several lifetimes. this razor feels well built, and Ive heard Merkur stands behind their razors, but in a world where people are going hungry, this just doesn't feel right. lol Any thoughts?

The Futur is my only razor. I use it with anything, for anything, and anywhere I travel. I'm glad it was my second razor purchase it has kept me from needing/wanting to purchase dozens more.

At one point I had 2 Futur razors. One for home and one for travel so to say that I like the way they shave is a bit of an understatement.

My suggestion is to just man up and enjoy your Futur. :a53:

It is a very simple design with very little to break so your worries about longevity with it are a little baseless. Sure it is not solid brass or sold stainless but it will shave circles around an iKon (any of them) or any of the Weber razors. I have owned just about every razor made and for my money the Futur would be a good value at twice the current market price.

Thanks guys, yeah youre right. I think it was just the minimalistic aspect of the 3 piece that I always enjoyed. I honestly, have never had a razor shave better or that was more well rounded. I'm just getting my head around it.

I have six different razors at home, but the Futur is the one I use almost every day. For me he´s perfect!

It's the one I intend to hint heavily at to SWMBO prior to my 50th in July; never read anything bad about it - well built, perfectly balanced, great shave & a design to die for

Just think of the Futur as a 2-piece! :thumbup1:
It is elegantly simple, at least compared to TTOs (which are a great design, but could never be described as simple.)

I find the Futur to be a well-designed razor that will last me until my death. There should be no shame in owning something nice, unless it is ridiculously extravagant. But I don't see that in the Futur.

When I was using a Gillette Mach III, I typically spent $120 a year on cartridges. My Futur cost about $75. So perhaps the more egalitarian cartridge systems are more extravagant.

My first safety razor was a chrome Futur that my wife, my girlfriend at the time, got me for Christmas back in 2004. I even took it to Afghanistan with me when I deployed. I've never had any problems with it. Actually, it's gotten better; the adjustment mechanism is much easier to turn now. The only small complaint that I have is that the head is larger than some razors.

Absolutely agree with Mick (could not have said it better).

Life is too short to be miserable. You like it...so enjoy it. Don't worry about it!

Can't wait to get mine! Just orered one this morning! Went for the Chrome Finish (lets hope I dont have any issues with slipping).... I guess it suited my new Brush / Razor holder (all chrome).

You know, I'm in the same boat as the OP.
I've had one for about 3-4 months now, using it every day, and it's the best DE I've ever owned. I don't have any complaints about it. It's heavy, which I like. Big head, no problem. Never had any complaints about keeping a grip on it.

I have nicked my thumb a couple times installing a new blade. The snap in feature was a bit... brutish for me to begin with, but I quickly adapted to it. Not a problem. It's a little aggressive for me, but on the 1 setting, it's fine.

I like it, but I cannot bring myself to love it. I want something else. It just doesn't feel like it's mine? Like I'm using it, and I'm comfortable with it, but it wasn't made for me.
I'm looking at getting a Feather AS-D1 as I've heard it's nice and mild, like I want, but might feel closer to "right" in my hand. If someone's looking for a Futur, keep an eye on the hobbyist/vendor classifieds.

Both my Futur's are dialed all the way up--literally----seems I get more comfortable shaves the more aggressive the razor is--Walmart Wilkies are my go to blades.
