Help me find a hat...

A baseball cap, something, anything that will fit my head! :cursing:

I've tried off-the-shelf (e.g. Target/Marshall's type) baseball caps - open all the way they are tight on my head and uncomfortable to wear.

I've even tried a FlexFit baseball cap - still tight and uncomfortable.

Suggestions?

If you're having this kind of trouble, go get a tape and measure your head. Then find a place that sells fitted hats and get one based on your measured size.

This. "One size fits all" is right up there with "More blades equals a better shave."

Find a hat shop, even on the net. Measure your head. Most good hat shops will tell you exactly how to do it. I prefer to shop in person, however, because the trying on is almost essential. As far as hats are concerned you might need to give us a bit more info as to what you want the hat to do and where you will wear it and what clothes will go with it. If Baseball is all you want go get a MLB, wool in your size, they are probably easiest to find if you live near a bigger city. I wear a hat every day when outside or not at work so go for it. Hats need to make a comeback for all gentlemen. So there, I said it.:thumbup1::thumbup1::thumbup1:

If you have an REI store nearby that might be a good start. They sell the better athletic hats in specific sizes, adjustable, etc. My experience with hats is like shoes. One brand is one size and another brand the same size doesn't work. I prefer to physically try them on and compare before purchasing.

I've got a friend with the same problem and from memory, he found that Gant baseball caps fitted his rather large head.

I'm also a sufferer of giant head disease. Last hat I bought was an Alpine Stars one from Ron Jons surf shop in size xl. It was tight at first but the elastic loosened up some and now it fit way better. New Era brand hats are pretty easy to find and they come in numbered sizes instead of "one size fits all".

A suggestion would be to try Filson Outfitters. Their web address is Filson dot com. I know that they have some hat sizes in XXL that might do the trick for you. Use a cloth tape measure and take the size of the circumference of your head and match it up with their hat selections. They have great quality clothing and outdoors gear.

Once you figure out your size, you might consider using something like Zappos.com

They have a large selection, and free shipping both ways. That way if you don't like your first choice/size you can move on to something else no harm, no foul.

I've got a pretty big melon, myself, and I regularly go for Kangol brand XL caps. Personal preference is black ventair models, but they have a lot of colors and are available on Amazon or other places, if that's a style you are interested in.

Here's a link to the ones I like:

What you may need, rather then a new hat is a hat stretcher. http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_info.php?products_id=68 When you sweat or get you hat wet it will shrink. Doesn't matter if your hat is made of cotton, leather, or polyester. If you put this in your hat when you are not wearing it, it will hold its shape/size. You can find this at any hat shop or tack (western wear) shop. Most have a sized range so make sure you get a size that fits your head.

With that said I would encourage anyone to buy a hat with a proper brim. Sun protection is serious business and can be stylish as well.

I did that with my first hat and it turned out far too small. Gave it to my sis. Also I think you need to get used to wearing one to know how tight or loose you like it and where on your head its most comfy. You need to go to a hatter my friend...
