Help IDing an Aristocrat Jr.

Hi all,

I just got a new Aristocrat Junior from Etsy. It was listed as a 1949, but I was wondering which one. I checked the MrRazor site, but the box doesn't seem to match any of the Juniors, maybe it was just stuck in a different razor's box. I've attached some photos, and if it helps I weighed it at 68 grams.

Thanks!

It's most likely the Aristocrat Junior No 53.

It's got the Rocket style TTO mechanism, and the pretty much identical Gillette Aristocrat Junior Gold of the same year comes in at 70 gm. I'm assuming your example would be close at 68 gm. Gold plate may be fractionally 'heavier'.

Just a rough estimate on the model.

Mismatched cases are very common. The original No.53 case seems to have not worn well, and many existing examples are in poor shape.

Lovely clean example you have there @MikeyTX !

It should be a great shaver. Nicely assertive and very efficient. Enjoy it!

Cool, it's definitely the one piece we commonly refer to as the 1949 Aristocrat Junior.
The razor itself was also sold in a few other sets, sometimes without the Aristocrat name (#48, #49, #51, #53, Canadian Rocket etc)

The set looks legit and was probably one of the last #88 sets Gillette sold (or it could be a late 40s #15 Aristocrat case, the pattern on the top might help)

Enjoy!

Shaved with it today. Definitely cannot just put on autopilot and run across the face like a tech or a late 60s superspeed. Despite a nick and a couple of weepers, this razor and the Ranger Tech 41 I bought at the same time gave me the closest, longest lasting shave I have experienced from my limited experience of Vintage Gillettes. I think the thing that really shocked me was the blade feel. It is there in spades, and here I was thinking that this was going to be just another superspeed that would be gentle and mild like a '68 Slim Twist...

Next time I will try to ride the cap a little more and maybe that will allow me to apply more pressure. During my shave with the Aristocrat I used the same angle I use with my tech and almost no pressure.
