Help Identifying Very Old Wade and Butcher

Hello my friends! I am in need of help.

I managed to get my hands on this beautiful Wade and Butcher, however, I know very little about it. I believe it is pre 1890 based on markings. Genuine tortoise shell scales. I would love to know the year of manufacture, rarity, and anything you can tell me about it.

Thank you so much, I leave it in your experienced hands!

Sounds like you already know most of what anyone here can tell you. There's no way to date these things to the year; at least none I've heard of.

As for rarity, if those are tortoise shell scales (I can't tell the difference between tortoise and horn), that's rarer than the blade. W&B made a LOT of razors and the design you have is a classic representation of their house style. It's in awfully good shape though. Looks like you did really well.

I remember seeing something that uses the tail to separate into time frames and I believe that type of tail corresponds to the second half of the 1800's, or 1850 and above. I don't think this is a definite dating technique but I believe they use the commonality of the shape of the tail to group them together.
