Help Cleaning my Vision 2000

I have a Vision that I have successfully taken apart and cleaned however the adjustment knob is very hard to turn. So hard that I take the blade out to turn it not to slip an cut myself. I contacted Classic Shaving, were I bought it and they suggested mailing it back to them to clean for $25. seems extreme. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I will thanks, I was able to take it apart and clean the shaft. When i was done the doors open and closed smoothly. Its just the adj knob.

Merkur recommends soaking the Vision for 30 minutes in a 5% solution of distilled vinegar after each blade change. I thought that was excessive so when I had the Vision, I soaked it once per week in the solution. This may clean away any mineral deposits which may be causing the problem.

Break Free is great stuff! If you don't mind the smell. I use it on alot of stuff around the house.

It's not just for guns! Out here in California you can get it at Walmart & I get mine from Ace Hardware.

Believe it or not there are no Walmarts in NYC, I will check home depot or a local hardware store.

Do you think WD40 would work, I have that. I just don't want to harm the plastic parts.

I have never used WD40 on my Vision only the Break Free. I moved away from WD40 a long time ago due to the low lubricating quality of that product. The nice thing about Break Free is you can buy it also without the cleaner additive.
WD40 as far as I am concerned is fine for loosing up stuck parts but is just a very poor lubricant. I understand you being hesitant in using WD40 or any penetrating oil solvent as it can be very harsh on certain plastics.
I have disassembled my Vision & can post the method I used as mine was different then the instructions that is online. Mine doesn't have the set screw to lock the adjusting knob.

I wish I would of took pics of the process. Only written ones. I don't think mine will come apart again I used a bearing retaining compound instead of Loctite to lock it after readjusting it. I looked at mine some more & I'm not totally convinced that yours will free up with just cleaning. Like I said earlier I would start with that.
If yours is like mine & the Loctite came loose the outside part just below the adjuster could turn & it can cause the adjusting knob to bind up in one direction against the stop. I would gentle see if this part turns. You should not be able to turn that part & if it moves then that might be the problem. I remembered when I was adjusting mine that this happened. The screw under the cap should also be tight it was held in place with a Loctite type product too.
I know you said you contacted the vendor & if the oil doesn't loosen it you really should contact Merkur either through the vendor or on your own about this problem.
