Help choosing wood/smoke/tobacco EdT

Hi gents,

I like tobacco woodsy scents. I love D.R.Harris Marlborough cream and, of course, Tabac soap.
I tried some EdT samples and in this league I liked Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Tauer Lonestar Memories, but these 2 are out of my league in terms of price.
What are your favorite, yet less expensive than these, EdT/EdC with these notes?

Thanks

If you love Tabac soap, why not try Tabac EdC?

Tabac EdC is not readily available here, maybe I'll have to order online.

What about Alt-Innsbruck? Classic scent

Same as above. Will have to order it online.

SMN Toscano.

Hmmm... If a tub of SMN cream breaks the bank, won't the EdC simply destroy it?

Amouage's Tribute attar. Great, great stuff.

Same as above, waaaaaaaay out of my league.

Thanks gents.

You may want to give Tabac Gran Valor a try. here you can find the scent pyramid. I gather there used to be a Gran Valor in the past; this is the modern concoction. It may not be what you're after, but still, you can see it contains what you're interested in.

If your budget is very tight, I'm afraid you're going to find the pickings to be pretty slim. Quorum is a decent option (albeit a cheap and dirty one); I get precious little actual tobacco in it - more an "olfactory illusion" of tobacco - but it's okay for the price. Aramis Havana is great stuff, but it didn't last very long on me. Czech and Speake Cuba is a little more pricey, but is far and away the best tobacco scent I've come across - it also suffers from limited staying power, and is definitely also one to try before you buy.

Wow, most anything is cheaper than Tom Ford anything to my mind!

I am so glad, Silk, to have you say Cuba " is far and away the best tobacco scent I've come across." Me too, although I have no idea whether it has actual tobacco in it. But the tobacco note in Cuba to me smells exactly like a good unlit cigar.

Floris Elite to me is tobacco and a decent on, although the on-line stuff about it does not even mention a tobacco note!

I may think of some others. If I do, I will post.

I mean, you can probably get Tabac online for much cheaper than you'd be able to find it in a store, so that's not a particularly big worry. It's also firmly on the low end of the price range. Comes in a 10 ounce bottle for a bit under 30 US dollars, and I think there's a much smaller bottle available for way less.

Trying to find worthy tobacco scents on a low budget is a big challenge. I've been on a tobacco hunt this fall and found some absolute jewels, but nothing under about $120 a bottle. I broke the bank and picked up a few that really fit the bill for me.

But back to providing suggestions for your search, there is a slight hint of tobacco in The Dreamer by Versace, but you aren't going to find any woods here. I think you can get a 1.7 oz of this for around $40 these days. This is not the "real" tobacco note you would find in other high end frags such as Tom Ford TV or Odori's Tabacco.

On the other hand, woody colognes (without the tobacco notes) are pretty readily available in the lower tiered price range. One I recently sampled with a great woody accord is Burberry London. Very woody. You're not really going to get any smoke or tobacco in it (some might say there is tobacco, but I don't get any), but the wood notes are top notch considering the price. You can also get a 1.7 oz of this one for under $40.

Hi Robbie,

I'm happy to come across another human being that will even admit to liking the stuff:lol: "OMG it smellz like monkey doo doo!!1" seems to be the stock reaction... In any case, the more I wear it, the more nuances I notice in it and the more I love it - I've kind of given up on posting in the "scent of the day" thread for the meantime for fear of becoming redundant...

Tobacco seems to my nose to be the whole theme of Cuba; the opening smells to me just like a packet of raw pipe tobacco (which rises well above all the other goodness that happens at that stage). In the heart I get that great, great cigar note that you mentioned, which lingers for a couple of hours, and then it fades into cedar and leather - although the tobacco notes do seem to have a way of suddenly condensing and giving me a pleasant surprise even after the scent has mostly faded away.

There's still so much stuff left to try, though, and so little time and disposable cash... SMN Acqua di Cuba, Tobacco di Toscano, Odori Tobacco, Trumper's Marlborough - "CB I hate perfume" also offers some very intriguing accords, although they don't seem to get much love here or on Basenotes for some reason...

Not to highjack the thread, but IMO the SMN Toscano falls short on tobacco. It's a decent frag, but if you like C&S Cuba, the SMN Acqua Di Cuba will be a better match. It smells like an unlit cigar. My only gripe with it is that it dries a little sour on my skin, but overall, it's a quality product.

You cannot go wrong with Odori's Tabacco. It is probably the closest pipe tobacco scent out there and definitely high quality. It is sweeter than C&S Cuba or SMN Acqua Di Cuba, but pipe tobacco is sweeter than a cigar so, there you have it. I recently added this to my collection and it does not disappoint.

Thanks for that. No hijacking intended - I guess we're indirectly helping someone to choose a wood/smoke/tobacco EdT, aren't we :001_rolle Did you get a decant of the Odori, or a full bottle?
