What's new

Hello Again - Im Back

So having been a member here since 2013 I took a break to raise a family, pursue a career and grow a beard.

My kids are now in their teens (the horror!), I have a wonderful career which I enjoy (most of the time), and I recently had a shave and immediately came back here to see what was new. We'll lots has changed, but it does strike me as the same friendly, helpful, and inclusive place that made me love this place in the past. Some names are familiar, while others are new, but the spirit of B&B has lived on in my absence.

So a little about me. I live in Canada (Ontario), my interests have mostly been in straight razors, restoration, using them, honing them. But am currently in the throws of Razor Aquisition Disorder (RAD) having discovered that those renegade upstart artisan DE razor makers that were just starting to surface back when I was active have exploded and there is more choices out there now than I would have ever dreamed.

It's good to be back, I'm glad this place is as solid as it ever was and I am looking forward to getting familiar with the place agsin and meeting all the new folks who have arrived.

Cheers!

Glad you're back. I've been around a few years here & am like you... love the camaraderie here!

There are many splendid razors to choose from these days. Some call this the "golden age of modern razors"! It very well could be. But I've never thought of naming an era for my shaving disorders!!!

Enjoy your time on B & B. And if you're looking at acquiring some new razors, I would be remiss if I didn't suggest you look into the wonderful world of vintage razors.

Enjoy your shaves!

Hey DM thank you.

Now vintage razors I have, lol, RAD is a thing that ive suffered from for many years now. I tend to gravitate to straights but I have a box full of vintage gillettes in various states. All of which are usable however. For me nothing will ever beat the feeling of finding a minty boxed gillette of any kind in an old junk store! Rooting through antique/junk stores is something my father and I are very fond of doing together, my wife isn't so hot on the idea, but puts up with it, she's a saint!

We might be brothers from different mothers! I enjoy a good hunt at a flea market, junk store, or vintage market. I've found a few old Gillettes worth taking home & using. Mostly I find Shick Injectors or Techs in Aristocrat boxes being sold as an Aristocrat. My wife is also a saint, they may be sisters!!!!

Ahhhh the aristocrat box with a tech special! Love those, lol. You get all excited then boom. I posted in another thread that I actually found a tech box with a tech in it. The box needed restoration as it was missing the base piece, so I did that. Here are the before and after.

Looks good, well done! And nice looking Canadian Tech!

Thanks! I actually picked like 4 fat handle techs, a flare tip and a four piece travel gillette, a Schick Krona (first one, needed it's doors repaired) and a Sonnal Bakelite German Slant on that day. It was a good day. . . The travel razor came in a 1934 Red & Black case (also needed restoration).
