Head and handle repair of Gillette

Do not see this anywhere. Maybe someone can direct me to a thread that contains information on how to stabilize one of the typical handle cracks at the point the handle attaches to the head of a 2 piece Gillette. Have a few razors with this condition, usually mild and would like to do something to make sure the crack does not traverse the entire handle.

The method that Alex references above is very good. I have used it, as well as a simplified version without the inner tube. The key is to use clamps to pull the tube tight and close the crack.

Repairs are generally indicated when the crack is severe enough to loosen either the neck or ball end. Many cracks are so slight that the ends are still tightly retained in the tube and do not need repair. I have never seen a crack "get worse" with normal use, but I'm sure one can be made worse if one is creative enough!

The above linked repair method is for three piece razor handles. It should work for 2 piece handles with the long threaded shaft on the top cap and outer handle fixed to the base plate too as long as the inner diameter of the inserted tube is larger than the long threaded nut that tightens the top cap onto the blade and base plate I think. Has any one tried fixing those handles? I have a Big Fellow and a first generation Gillette with the fixed handle that need split handle repairs.
