HDMI Cables and the like

Where is the best place to buy these types of things online? I know I don't need to be spending lots on this stuff. Anyone buy from Deal Extreme?

+1 on Monoprice.

I've bought from them quiet a few times and I've always bee happy with their products.

The products that I've purchased from DX have always shipped from overseas and they
can take a couple of weeks to arrive.

Monoprice is located close to me in California and I usually get my products in a day.

I buy all I mine on amazon. I never pay more than $5 a cable, free shipping. Always remember that an hdmi cable is digital so a $50 cable and a $5 perform the same. They either work or they don't.

from time to time my wife hoiks her smartphone hdmi cable to bedroom tv...works great..ebay was really cheap..shipped within the USA NIB

Same here. I purchase them for my small business and I've always had great results.

Another chorus member here. Monoprice. What I like about Monoprice aside from the great pricing is the selection of cable adaptersxand gender changers. Another thing I like is that for commonly used items like 1/8" stereo connector cables for connecting mp3 players to your car head unit can be had in a ruggedised version tor only a bit more than the lower priced stuff. I doubt it is heavier gauge wire but the plugs and strain reliefs are much better quality

I too have heard there is no need forcpremium digital cables. They either make the connection or they don't. Does this hold true for iEEE1394/iLink/Firewire cables as well? Monoprice has nice pricing on them.

Cheers, Todd

While I generally agree with the above statement, there is something to be said about the quality of manufacturing. I usually recommend getting a medium priced cable. I used to work for an electronics store (small locally owned, not Best Buy) and have sold and/or installed dozens, if not hundreds, of digital and HDMI cables, and I have seen a lot of the really cheap ones break and/or stop working because they use very inexpensive materials and don't have as much QC. Also, I have seen some of the cheap connectors not stay put. I am certainly not saying you should buy an expensive one, maybe just the second cheapest! You may be hard pressed to see a difference in performance under normal circumstances, but there are noticeable differences in build quality. I suppose it also matters what the cables are being used for.

Anywhere but your local retailer. Unless the HDMI cable goblin comes blowing through my house an hour before the Packers play in a Super Bowl I will never pay "retail" for an HDMI cable.

Same situation with ethernet cables, phone chargers, etc etc...

I usually buy from newegg, but I'm open to buy from just about anyone that will give me a deal. I've also had good luck with meritline and tiger direct. I've never tried monoprice though.

But definitely go with an online store and not a brick & mortar one. I worked at radio shack and most of our cables were a 200% - 300% markup over cost.
