What's new

Have you been to any concerts/live shows recently?

Here's the past couple of years, I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting:

21 Pilots - A surprisingly good show. It's amazing that this band is made up of only two guys. I took my daughter. It's here favorite band and she loved it. I enjoyed it quite a bit myself. They sounded great and put on a hell of a show. I'd see them again.

Alice Cooper & Motley Crue - I'm not a huge Alice Cooper fan but that guy puts on a hell of a show. Outstanding in fact, you never knew what was going to happen next. I'm glad I got to see it as the guy is up there in years so who knows how much longer he'll keep doing it. Motley Crue sounded good as well. I went with the Brother in Law. It was supposedly their last tour or at least until they do another last tour.

Dave Matthews Band - These guys took some breaks here and there but they played a really, really long time. We had lawn seats and it was raining here in AZ which is rare. It was an outside venue with tons of people smoking weed in the rain. I guess this is common at their shows. We even had some college girls making out with each other in front of us. Overall a fun night and some great music.

Def Leppard, Styx & Tesla - This one was fun as well. Def Leppard was good but not as good as they used to be. I've seen them several times in their prime. Still a hell of a show though. Styx was good as well. Tesla played a short set but they sounded good.
Bon Jovi - Always a great show. I was loud and they sounded great. The tour without Richie Sambora but Phil X is a lot better guitar player. I guess he's filled in for a lot of performers and is always flawless. This is my Wife's favoirite band from the 80's.
Train, The Script & Gavin DeGraw - This was an excellent show with all three bands sounding great. I'd do this one again in a second.

Pink - We did the Pink tickets for my Daughters for Christmas one year. They were super excited. I paid quite a bit and got really great seats (like I usually do). It was outstanding, much better than expected. All of the acrobatics and it was a hell of a performance. Like a Circus Soleil show almost. Sounded outstanding too. Really cool and worth the money I spent on it.

We really like live music so we hit all kinds of tribute bands at the local casino as well. We don't really gamble, but like seeing the bands there so we'll spend just enough so that we can get free tickets. There's a Journey Tribute band called DSB that's really good. They have quite a few others like one guy that does Billy Joel and Elton John, CCR, and the list goes on. Most are quite good and all of the seats are great since it's a small venue.

My voice still hasn't recovered from Friday night's Sabbath show. It is definitely one of the best shows I've seen. Watching some videos that I took on my phone I can tell that Ozzy is having trouble staying in tune, but at the show (lawn seats) I didn't even notice.

Last night: Richard Thompson Trio opening for Bonnie Raitt. Guitar heaven! And how do their voices sound so terrific after all these years of touring?

X earlier this month...still a powerhouse. It was also a lot of fun to see John Doe reading from his book "Under the Big Black Sun" at The Strand bookstore before the show. It was just a few blocks south of the concert venue.

Went to GnR at Dodger Stadium last week.

A 10 song set with my daughter and her band at their college Tuesday night.

Sappyfest XI
Every summer they close off a block in downtown Sackville, put up a big tent, and host a three-day Indie music festival.
All regional indie bands and solo performers. The ticket sales are limited, so it's still quite an intimate venue, and not all corporate & commercial like most music festivals. The performers love it, and the audience is enthusiastic without being rowdy.
Favourite performers this year: Partner, Ought, Adrian Teacher and the Subs, Les Hôtesses d'Hilaire, Nap Eyes, and Nancy Pants.

Last night, Drive-by Truckers sold out show in Toronto, First time seeing them but have been following them for years. Great show, very happy to have finally seen them live! They had Kyle Craft & band opening, totally new to me but worth checking out.

Standing for all totaled 5½ hours plus...

I just won tickets to Blue Rodeo. We were 16 rows back and dead centre. Eye level with the band and the perfect spot for sound.
I was expecting to enjoy the show but not as much as I did. What a talented and tight band they are. The only draw back was the theater seating made it impossible to get up and dance.

THE QUEBE SISTERS BAND

I've been a fan of these young ladies from Texas since I first stumbled across a performance of theirs on our local PBS station about seven years ago. I finally got to see them perform live here in Albuquerque last August. And, best of all they are coming here again next weekend! I've always been a fan of the Andrews Sisters' tight harmonies, and I really enjoy Texas swing (Bob Wills, etc.). The Quebe Sisters combine the two styles of music and nail it! I got to meet them after their August performance and they were the sweetest ladies you would ever want to meet!

Jonny Grave (and the Tombstones) doing a Led Zep tribute as a part of a "classic albums of 1969" show. Pretty impressive guitar (has a slide taped to his little finger all the time as far as I can tell) and showman. Apparently quite the Renaissance guy. Among other things, hill country/Piedmont blues expert/historian. Seems like quite the player. I would go out of my way to see him again.

I just came back from an Open Mic night at a local establishment. All of 15 people in the place, which features a few comfy couches to sit on. Also a stuffed bear and raccoon.
The amazing thing was nobody sucked. The best $2 I've spent in a long time.

Last month I saw Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Richard Thompson, Steve Earle, Buddy Miller, Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves, Sarah Jarosz, Patti Griffin, Loudon Wainwright III and his relatives, and Aaron Lee Tasjan, along with a couple dozen other top-notch acts. Maybe I should have placed this in the Life is Hard thread.

I saw the Emmylou/Rodney tour a few years ago and Richard Thompson opened with as an electric trio. Great show. RT was killer. Patti Griffin is great. Wonderful to have Loudon W still out and around. Sounds like a great line up. might be overwhelming to me at this point to have so many acts.

March 11 - Saw Alan Jackson at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Incredible overall event and a really good one hour concert. Tickets cost a whole $30 for everything.
